Consultants are expected to maintain a workload diary. The Core, Specialist and ACCS trainees together with the trust grades form a full shift system to cover general theatre emergencies and the Intensive Care Unit. The consultant cover for ICU is provided by consultant anaesthetists with a special interest in critical care. The 3rd oncall tier is provided by Associate Specialists to cover obstetric anaesthesia and analgesia.

Teaching There is a modern well-equipped Post Graduate Medical Educational Centre with excellent library facilities and tutorial rooms for large and small group tuition. The appointee is expected to be actively involved in teaching. The weekly programme within the department including: Sponsored lunchtime meetings; Trainee tutorials organised by the College Tutor; Journal clubs presented by trainees; Scan clubs organised by interested consultants. In addition, there are monthly departmental meetings, during which all elective work is cancelled for a session.

These meetings comprise a combination of governance issues together with continuing professional development. Kettering General Hospital is linked closely with Leicester and Nottingham Medical School, and the Anaesthetics Department has regular medical student attachments. Audit The appointee will be expected to take an active role in the audit and research activities of the department.
