**8:45am - 5:30pm Monday - Thursday & 8:45am - 3:30pm on Friday (Term Time Only)**

Experience as a key-person is desirable, but not essential.

**Terms and conditions**
- This is a part-time position for the number of hours agreed at the beginning of the academic school year for 38 weeks per calendar year.
- The pre school is currently open 5 days a week (Mon-Fri) during the East Sussex County Council school term time.
- There is an expectation that one week day evening, approximately nine times per year, attendance at staff meetings will be required.
- You will also on occasions have to attend training courses outside of your regular working times.
- It is essential that you engage in supervision sessions with the pre-school Manager once per term, paying particular attention to the safeguarding of the children and adults in the setting.

**Accountability**
- The post holder will be accountable to the Caterpillar Management Committee through the day to day supervision of the Pre-school Manager and Deputy Manager.

**General Responsibilities **_(in no particular order)_
- To work closely with the Manager, Deputy and the Management Committee in aiming to provide the highest standards of Early Years childcare possible.
- To ensure the safeguarding of children is given high priority each day.
- To ensure the voice of all children is heard and considered, especially where safeguarding is concerned.
- To work as part of the team, to be alert and willing to help others when needed.
- To contribute to the pre-school planning system, evaluating in practice and providing enhancements as necessary.
- To help provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children, encouraging them to develop new skills through play and exploration.
- To develop good relationships with the children in order to fully understand each individual child’s needs.
- To promote parent/carer partnerships for all children and families attending the pre-school.
- To assist with promoting positive behaviour of the children in accordance with preschool policy.
- To liaise with the Manager/SENCO and Deputy Manager to bring to their attention any children who may require additional support.
- To help keep the premises clean and tidy.
- To help ensure that pre-school equipment is kept in good order and that it is stored in a tidy and safe manner when not in use.
- To understand and promote the Christian values upheld by this church.

**Pre-School Duties** _(in no specific order)_
- To arrive at 8.45am (or at your agreed start time, if different) to assist with the setting up of the activities for the day.
- To know the daily timetable and any specific responsibilities you may have on a given day.
- To support key-people with observation of their key-children, taking into account the children’s next steps, areas of interest and dispositions to learning.
- To take responsibility for a key-group in the absence of the key-person; including engaging with the children during transition times i.e. separating from their parent/carer at the beginning of the day, completing care routines such as nappy changing or dressing, and supporting children to be independent in care routines where appropriate.
- To be aware of, read and understand all the policies and procedures of the Caterpillar Pre-school.
- To be aware of current legislation and practice concerning Early Years and Ofsted requirements.
- To contribute towards evaluating the pre-school on a regular basis.

**After School Club Duties** _(in no specific order)_
- To collect the children from Battle and Langton at 3:15pm, ensuring the safety of the children is paramount, including careful supervision and use of high-visibility vests.
- To take responsibility for the registration of each child leaving and entering after school club.
- To contribute to cooking and meal preparation in order to provide a hot meal for the children.
- To support the children with their reading, spelling and/or other homework activities.
- To promote positive behaviour following the pre-school policies, using age/stage related strategies.
- To provide stimulating and fun activities for the children to ensure they are happy in the environment.
