Job Title: Welfare Benefits Adviser
Location: Countywide
Starting Salary: £33,820 with the opportunity to progress to a maximum of £37,261 (pro rata for part-time)
Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Fixed Term - 2 years

Could you be our Money Saving Expert? This is a new two-year post working alongside our existing benefit advisers, providing additional support to prevent our clients being financially excluded and disadvantaged. You won’t be giving financial advice, butyou will be helping them make the most of what is usually a fairly fixed and low income.

The work will be a mixture of casework, individual support to service-users, negotiation with utilities, maximising income and minimising expenditure and providing group training and briefings on financial security. You will supervise interviewers who willassist you in the practical tasks such as setting up bank accounts, direct debits, organising 'swaps’ to better deals on broadband or membership of Priority Services registers etc.

Our service-users range from families with disabled children, cancer patients, mental health service-users, carers and people with learning disabilities. What they have in common is the need to make every £ count when it comes to obtaining and spending income.You will need to have knowledge of the benefit system for those cases that are referred in by external professionals. The job involves groupwork too - covering both benefit and money management issues.

Confidence and experience in dealing with a diverse range of clients, individually and collectively, will be essential, as is the ability to make personal finance understandable and accessible.

This is a chance to make a difference to people’s lives in a very practical way, when the need has never been greater. It completes the process that the MAU begins in getting the right benefits in place. It has an educational role, and a strongly personalone.
