Job Start is just one of our many young people’s services, which include supported internships, travel training, Saturday Youth Group, residential short breaks, holiday schemes and soon to be launched My Time weekend community based social lives.
We are looking for an experienced employment professional with the skills, expertise, and tenacity to deliver Job Start and achieve its intended outcomes.
- Working on a 1:1 basis for 12 weeks with young people aged 19-24 with learning and other disabilities/autism who are unemployed or lost their job due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with a focus on enabling them to secure a new employment position suiting their needs, requirements and aspirations as quickly as possible.
- Organising and delivering Workshops in schools for younger disabled people aged 14-18 to provide information about the world of work, the skills and qualities required to succeed and introducing them to employers. Supporting every young person to create a personal plan setting out what they will do to move closer towards employment so they can achieve their dreams in the future.
Employment Advisor
The aim of this role is to make a significant difference to the lives of young disabled people by enabling them to secure employment during the life of the programme and beyond. Job Start reduces young people’s likelihood of poverty, isolation, mental ill health, and criminal activity and changes lives for the better by providing opportunities to be an 'ordinary' citizen - contributing to society, being part of the workforce and being equal.
**Key responsibilities**:
- Promoting the service to a wide and relevant audience, growing brand awareness and ensuring people with learning and other disabilities, family carers and professionals know about our client and can access our services.
- Identifying and working with a minimum of 20 young people aged 19 - 24 who need employment development support to regain or secure paid employment.
- Delivering a 12 week (maximum) intensive employment support programme to build confidence and abilities to secure paid work. This will include specific job analysis, task analysis, job matching activities, communication skills, interview techniques and behaviours as they relate to successful employment.
- Liaising and encouraging referrals from other agencies and professionals, carrying out Initial Assessments and ensuring people are suitable for the service.
- Reaching out and building professional relationships with local businesses to promote our project, explore their employment requirements and secure opportunities for interviews, work placements and paid roles.
- Working with young people, employers, families, job placement specialists, AtW, and other appropriate agencies to problem solve issues related to progression into employment where necessary.
- Liaising with schools, colleges, and youth Projects to identify and work with a minimum of 20 young people aged 14 - 18 who need employment preparation support to improve their future success.
- Creating and delivering a series of workshops for these young people to upskill and educate them about the world of employment, assisting each young person to write a next steps plan to help them progress their goals.
- Working with the Young People’s POWER group to ensure that young people are involved in guiding the delivery and continuous improvement of the project as ‘experts by experience’.
- Sharing the successes, outcomes and learning of this project with a range of partner organisations including the Young Ealing Foundation, the Ealing
Parent Carer Forum and the Local Authority to ensure that they can utilise our experiences within their organisation strategies and work programmes.
- Maintaining accurate recording, reporting, and monitoring of service provision and impact using charity log to ensure the service complies with all data protection legislation.
- Contributing to the development of policies, procedures and working practices to meet the needs of the service and the organisation.
- Responding and managing any complaints and safeguarding concerns, liaising with the Head of Children and Adult Services as required.
- Leading from the front as a strong role model within the organisation and always living by our clients values.
