We are looking for a highly motivated individual, with demonstrated community development expertise. You will work collaboratively and proactively with a range of stakeholders, including residents, community groups, voluntary sector organisations, elected members, council departments and other public agencies, to coordinate and develop opportunities that improve outcomes for residents. A key priority is to extend reach into our diverse communities and work with them to enable stronger community voice, better relationships and more responsive delivery.

Working with voluntary and community sector organisations and building on existing work in the area, you will ensure that local community facilities are well managed and maintained, run on a sustainable basis, and used to the benefit of the community.

The postholder is responsible for supporting the delivery of a programme for strengthening communities in order to deliver social outcomes; reduce demand through greater local resilience and deliver community engagement, community development and asset based working.

**The postholder will ensure delivery of the following areas**:

- facilitating greater connection to the local area for local residents, partners and stakeholders;
- co ordinate a programme of activities for strengthening communities to deliver the locality based offer;
- growing community capacitythrough targeted community led ventures and collaborations with the voluntary and community sector as well as partners in the council and other agencies;
- organising and delivering a programme of social action embracing community expertise and civic participation;
- Enabling and supporting place-based community networksand partnerships.

1. To be responsible for leading on resident engagement and enabling community voice and community action as a key area of activity at the community centre; facilitating friends of groups and providing support for community groups to be effective in their delivery.
2. To lead, design, deliver and manage engaging projects, activities, initiatives and events, working with community partners and council services to improve outcomes for all residents in the locality area including LBI tenants on housing estates. To lead on project and event health and safety, risk assessments and licensing arrangements.
3. To be responsible for ensuring the community centre and facilities are used to maximum community benefit to host an engaging and vibrant programme of community activities and services that respond to resident need and interest, ensuring Islington Council tenants benefit from the services and opportunities available.
4. To be responsible for providing a safe, well-maintained community centre, including developing and maintaining risk assessments, creating and implementing action plans following health and safety audits, reporting and coordinating repairs and improvements, managing and maintaining equipment, supplies and resources ensuring that they are safe to use and regularly audited, working with the Centre Manager to determine cleaning requirements and acting as point of contact for cleaning staff.
5. To identify and secure funding to enable the delivery of community programmes in the community centre and neighbourhood and to ensure that resources are used in a way that delivers value for money, social value and the best outcomes for Islington residents.
6. To be responsible for developing an engaging range of communications material and publicity which promotes opportunities and activities, using a variety of formats, including the council website and directory, electronic noticeboards, newsletters and local media. To work with the council’s Communications team to produce information resources for residents and partners sharing updates and information, promoting understanding and connectivity and evaluating the impact of this, making decisions and setting out plans for changes and improvements. Utilise communications channels to promote and publicise ward partnerships and locality-based activities.
7. To support the Community Partnerships management team to develop and deliver the strategy and the service plan of the Council’s Community Partnership service.
8. To design and deliver a programme of regular outreach work with a wide variety of key locality partners including residents, ward councillors, community organisations, voluntary sector organisations, council services, housing associations and local businesses. To ensure that these partnerships work in a joined-up, effective and outcome-focused way.
9. To maximise the use of the community centre and facilities; be responsible for managing and securing bookings and delivering programmes, initiatives and activities either directly or in partnership with local community groups and partners.
