As a technical leader, you will steer, advise, and collaborate with others, and oversee delivery of strategic flood and habitat management activities led by the team. You will ensure co-ordinated and efficient delivery of our multi-disciplinary and complex work, to achieve a common goal of a resilient Humber region. You will work in partnership and enable co-creation of key outputs and achievement of milestones.
You will horizon scan, interpret and manage the implications of relevant policy, legislation and good practice elsewhere, for long term management of tidal flood risk around the Humber.
Building on the lessons learnt from Humber evidence and practice, identified by you and other experts in the team, you will shape the approaches and delivery of managing tidal flooding and the estuary’s natural system. You will also inform national priorities and seek support from others for implementation where appropriate.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- The Humber Strategy team is focused on the long-term management of tidal flood risk around the Humber and tidal rivers and includes specialists in flood risk, the environment and coastal habitats, engagement, strategic planning and funding.

Experience/skills required- You will have:

- A good understanding of long term, sustainable flood and coastal erosion risk management including interactions with habitats and nature recovery.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and expertise to work with colleagues, partners and customers at senior levels, including central government.
- The ability to deliver results through and with others in a fast paced and changeable environment.
- Experience of delivering a programme of work and handling multiple priorities, working to tight timescales.
- Experience in enabling delivery across multiple linked but separate projects or work areas, in a joined up and efficient way, to achieve outcomes
- A positive and proactive attitude to solving problems.
- Experience of successfully influencing senior partners and colleagues on challenging politically sensitive projects.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusivity and respects different viewpoints, values, cultures and contributions
- A passion for collaboratively developing and co creating solutions
- Contact and additional information- We are an inclusive team, based at locations across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. We support our staff to do their work in a way that works for them and the team and support flexible working. Although we often work remotely, we would expect the post holder to be based at one of our local offices (Beverley, Leeds, Lincoln, Manby, Nottingham, Rotherham, Sheffield, York) and you would need to be able to easily access the Humber area.
A driving licence would be beneficial.
Your previous experience and your answers to the capability questions will be used for interview selection. Interviews will be held between the end of August and mid-September.
