**THE TEAM**
The Planning Dept comprises around 85 people across our 4 offices.

The Scottish Planning and Heritage team advises owners, developers and occupiers of sites and properties across Scotland and the north of England. Recent projects include: Various PBSA developments; Redevelopment of former BHS & Debenhams stores on Princes Street; The Royal Edinburgh Hospital Master Plan; University of St Andrews; Former Royal High School, Edinburgh; Fort Kinnaird & Glasgow Fort development sites and The Haymarket, Edinburgh.

The team works collaboratively to deliver results across different land uses and with its market leading Heritage specialism (25 people) can provide a fully integrated planning and heritage client service across the UK.

**ROLE OVERVIEW**
We are looking for a talented, ambitious, and personable Heritage Planner to join our planning and development team in Scotland.

MAIN DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Support for Heritage Partner and integrated working with the Planning Team
- Assembling baseline heritage information for projects, primarily in Scotland, but occasionally in other parts of the UK;
- Site visits and photography
- Primary and secondary research online and in archives/libraries for historic buildings and areas to include:
Planning history;
Designations (listed buildings, conservation areas, designated gardens and designed landscapes, scheduled monuments etc.);
Historical research (building and area plans, maps, images etc.).
- Analysis of heritage assets and their settings.
- Identification of potential development impacts.
- Drafting of documents using Adobe’s InDesign software including: heritage assessments and statements; statements of significance; Certificate Of Intention Not To List (COINTL) reports; Heritage and Townscape Visual Impact Assessments (HTVIAs); conservation area appraisals and management plans; planning and listed building consent appeal statements; heritage inputs into large-scale multi-disciplinary projects.
- Creation of custom mapping;

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION:

- Degree level minimum, higher qualification, apprenticeship qualifications or equivalent experience in architectural history, historic built environment conservation or other relevant disciplines;
- A team player;
- Strong background in historic buildings and the historic environment in Scotland and knowledge of research resources;
- Good working knowledge of the planning system in Scotland and fully conversant with the relevant heritage legislation, policies and guidance;
- Robust knowledge of Scottish and wider UK history, particularly architectural history;
- Excellent research, report writing and communication skills;
- Strong administration skills and financial awareness;
- Ability to work under pressure and meet critical deadlines;
- Full clean driving licence.
