Conservation Housekeeper

**40 hours per week, typically 9am to 5.30pm**

To undertake day-to-day care and cleaning of the historic interiors and contents of Castle Howard, ensuring the important collections of fine and decorative arts are preserved and presented to the highest standards. Working in one of the finest private country houses in England, you will ensure that both the public and family areas are kept to a high standard of cleanliness and play a vital role in safeguarding the house and collections for the present and future. You will be mentored by the Curatorial team to identify and address issues surrounding collections care, and share this knowledge with colleagues and the general public.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Work alongside the wider household team by undertaking daily cleaning schedules, with a focus on the historic interior.
- Work closely with the Curatorial team to carry out focused conservation care and cleaning tasks across the collections and update records.
- Undertake training in aspects of collections care as required and share learnings with the wider team.
- Assist with the development of routine and deep clean schedules of work.
- Assist in the implementation of preventative conservation measures, including pest management and environmental monitoring.
- Provide occasional housekeeping cover for other aspects of the business.
- Assist with occasional planned private hospitality events on evenings and weekends, by advance arrangement.

**Person Specification**:
**Essential**
- Attention to detail with an eye for good presentation
- Good team-working and communication skills
- Able to work at heights, including the use of step ladders and mobile scaffolding
- Knowledge of and commitment to maintaining health and safety standards
- Experience working within an historic environment and an understanding of conservation housekeeping practices.

**Desirable**
- Experience using mobile scaffolding
- Working with volunteers

**Salary**: £20,800.00 per year
