Accountancy Recruit is partnering with a Private Holding Company for a highly profitable group with turnover of £250 million. The majority of the business is involved in selling timber products to the UK construction business; however, this is managed from the North of England. The rest of the business involves a thoroughbred breeding business, traditional farming, and property investment. This is effectively the private office of the sole owner, with offices based in Marlborough (on-site parking available). As the Bookkeeper you will be working within a small team reporting to the Chairman and taking responsibility for day-to-day accounts, through to month end closure. This is a varied role, in which you can take ownership and responsible of a variety of tasks: you will need a proactive approach, being flexible and adaptable. Enjoyable role in a busy company with a collaborative approach.
**Key Accountability Overview**
- Responsible for the day-to-day transactions using Sage.
- Purchase ledger: collating and recording all purchase ledger invoices for the 4/5 operating companies.
- Preparing invoices for approval.
- Making payments using the online banking system.
- Sales ledger: raising invoices, statements, and credit notes.
- Chasing outstanding debt and preparing aged debt reports.
- Bank Reconciliations - to include various non purchase ledger items.
- Reconciling supplier balances.
- Preparing cost summaries.
- Calculation and submission of VAT returns.
- Closing month end accounts and presenting trail balance reports.
- Supporting the Management Accountant in month end reporting.
**Person Specification**
- Working knowledge in a similar role, with responsibility for processing a reasonable number of transactions.
- Excellent communication skills and the proven ability to manage stakeholders at all levels.
- Previous experience of Sage / Sage Line 50 and Microsoft Excel.
- The ability to work autonomously, but also work well within a small team.
**Remuneration**
- Competitive base salary between £30-40,000 pa depending on experience.
- Contributory pension scheme.
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays.

- Hours: 8.30 am to 5.00 pm - Monday to Friday
