Waste Recycling Assistant

**Overview**
Pertemps Recruitment, on behalf of Harrow Council, has an exciting opportunity for two Waste Recycling Assistants to join the Environmental Service Delivery team in Harrow. Working alongside the Assistant Manager, you will play an important role in workingas part of the Waste Services teams in accordance with statutory requirements and in compliance with relevant Council policies and procedures. Providing assistance to customers as necessary to enable and ensure the effective and efficient operation, and highlevel of customer satisfaction. Providing a safe, efficient and customer focused facility for the receipt, separation, and despatch of waste.
**About the role**
As a Waste Recycling Assistant, you will be responsible for:

- Providing assistance to customers as necessary to enable and ensure the effective and efficient operation, and high level of customer satisfaction
- Instructing customers, contractors and other site users on matters relating to their health, safety, and welfare on site
- Providing a safe, efficient and customer focused facility for the receipt, separation, and despatch of waste
- Advising customers, contractors and other site users in matters relating to Environmental Regulations and site licence
- Advising the Assistant Manager, of any person on the site who is acting in a way liable to endanger his/her own or someone else’s health and safety
- Reporting to the Assistant Manager any item, piece of plant or site fabric where a problem has or is likely to develop, so that the necessary maintenance can be carried out
- Operating the two-way radio to maintain contact with other members of staff and Managers
- Undertaking general cleaning duties to maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the site and surrounding area
- Carrying out all duties in accordance with the site safety manual and Council Health and Safety Policy
- Understanding the requirements of the site licence
- Maximising the possibilities for recycling and waste minimisation and to provide a source of information to members of the public regarding these areas in accordance with the site licence
- Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and hygiene
- General sweeping and cleaning duties connected to waste recycling
- The quality control of waste and recyclables that enter the site
- Traffic control and direction
- Undertaking other reasonable duties consistent with the grade and level of the post
This is a temporary position. The pay rate is £11.30 per hour, and you will be working full time, 40 hours per week.
The Harrow Council Hub is conveniently situated in the town centre (HA3 8NT area) with great transport links.
**About you**
- Experience providing services successfully to the public
- First Aid Certificate, Basic Health and Safety Certificate and CITB Plant Operator Certificate, or ability to obtain qualifications
- The ability to communicate with a variety of people and work effectively with the general public
- The ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team
- The ability to prioritise workload
- The ability to deal tactfully with stressful situations
- The ability to be responsible to service requirements
- Flexibility to work a shift pattern covering weekend and Bank Holidays. Weekend work is a normal part of the working week. Annual leave may not be taken disproportionately at the weekend
- (Be) Physically fit, mobile and able to work in outside in all weather conditions
- (Be) Able to wear PPE requirements
