**About the role**
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Head of Procurement is responsible for delivering a professional service for the acquisition of a wide range of goods, services, works and equipment across the full range of the Museum’s activities.
You’ll act as head of profession and lead the development and implementation of the Museum’s procurement strategy and good procurement practice in support of the Museum’s strategic objectives, ensuring that value for money is achieved through robust, efficient, effective, compliant and responsible procurement practice.
You’ll lead large and complex procurements, managing several projects simultaneously.
You’ll be responsible for developing, overseeing and driving compliance with the Museum’s procurement policy and procedures and you’ll champion the Museum’s commitment to responsible procurement. You’ll have experience of e-sourcing, marketplace systems and public sector framework agreements, and will possess excellent, practical knowledge and experience of government procurement policy, public procurement legislation and contract law.
**About you**
You will have:
- Experience of managing procurement in an organisation of similar size and complexity.
- A demonstrable commitment and track record of achievement in responsible procurement, including both environmental sustainability and tackling modern slavery.
- A proactive approach to developing, managing and providing practical and cost-effective solutions for delivering demonstrably advantageous procurement outcomes.
- Significant professional experience of working with senior-level personnel.
- A demonstrable commercial acumen with a working understanding of commercial risk management and an eye for detail.
- Excellent, practical knowledge and experience of government procurement policy, public procurement legislation and contract law.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver an organisation-wide procurement strategy, responsible procurement policy and leading-edge public procurement processes.
- A sound working knowledge of contract and supplier relationship management techniques.
- Experience of drafting specifications for goods and services to achieve required performance outcomes.
- A seasoned, skilled negotiator with the ability to lead large and complex procurements and detailed contract negotiations.
- A collaborative leader able to support, challenge, influence, consult with, gain the confidence of and manage multiple internal stakeholders.
- A strong commercial acumen, with an ability to develop strategy, implement strategic initiatives and oversee the development of long-term plans to support business objectives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in building relationships with budget managers, internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Hands-on experience of e-sourcing, spend analysis and database systems.
