We are seeking an enthusiastic, well qualified and ambitious teacher to join our Design and Technology Department as Subject Leader for Food Technology. The ability to teach to Level 2 Hospitality and Catering and GCSE Food and Nutrition is essential and the ability to teach GCSE Product Design is desirable. As a classroom practitioner you would need to demonstrate exceptional classroom practice and be able to motivate and inspire students. This will involve 100% commitment to our vision which is captured in our strapline “High Expectations | Exceptional Individuals”.

**Teaching and Learning**

Teaching and Learning is at the heart of all that we do, and our personalised professional development programme is centred around our Principles of Teaching. These have been shaped by research from, among others, Barak Rosenshine, John Hattie and Doug Lemov. We also follow a lesson structure shaped around these principles that liberates and enables students to ‘Learn to the Max’ every lesson. We are committed to regular developmental lesson visits and coaching conversations as part of our shared commitment to developing as practitioners.

**The Curriculum**

The school operates a 50 period two-week timetable. In Year 9, students have 2 hours per week of Design and Technology, completing projects in each of Engineering, Food, Graphics, Product Design and Textiles. Students in year 9 will specifically study both Hospitality & Catering and Food & Nutrition units of work in order to make informed decisions for their GCSEs.

In Years 10 and 11 students are taught for 5 hours per fortnight. We offer Hospitality and Catering (WJEC), Food and Nutrition (AQA), Design & Technology: Product Design (AQA), Design & Technology: Graphics (AQA), Design & Technology: Engineering and Textiles (Art).

Our A-Level course is based on 9 hours per fortnight and follows the AQA Product Design specification.

**Our Facilities**

Our facilities are excellent and always remarked upon by parents and other visitors. We have two large domestic style Food Technology rooms as well as a large specialist catering suite, a pantry, and a kitchenette. Class sizes are capped at 20 students and the Food department benefits from a dedicated technician (shared with the Textiles department).

In Design & Technology we have three well-equipped workshops and two rooms with drawing tables and computers. There is a range of CAD / CAM equipment including laser cutter and 3-D printers. The heat treatment area allows both welding and sand-casting.
