**Job Purpose**
The Deputy Head of Operations role will provide senior management support to the Head of Operations on a wide and diverse range of general operations within the Advanced Research Centre, the University of Glasgow’s £116M flagship research building. The postholder will have managerial responsibility across three operational areas: Administration, Events and Technical operations. In addition, the postholder will be responsible for managing a significant project portfolio consisting of technical and non-technical projects within the ARC to ensure delivery of the institutional research strategy.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- Lead the activities of directly-reporting staff within the ARC and manage performance of other professional services working in the ARC to ensure effective service delivery which is aligned to operational and strategic plans.
- Monitor the usage of all spaces within the ARC and modify protocols as required to deliver maximum value from the Universities investment.
- Ensure the ARC is maintained to a high standard and fulfils Health and Safety requirements.
- Monitor the requirements of users within the ARC, identify service shortfalls and implement changes to continuously improve operational systems to enhance the effectiveness of service provision.
- Promote collaboration amongst resident and non-resident research communities to achieve the aims of the institutional research strategy.
- Responsible for leading the delivery of a portfolio of projects within the ARC including:

- space reconfiguration projects.
- change management projects.
- strategic research initiatives.
- high profile events/visits/engagement activities.
- Ensure that the ARC hosts a vibrant ongoing programme of events and activities for internal and external audiences.
- Deal directly with major stakeholders on behalf of the Head of Operations and the Director of the ARC- these include the Research Councils, UK and Scottish Government departments, major donors and other key influencers.
- Play a key role in strategic planning within the ARC by developing investment/business cases that will enhance the user experience by analysing current occupancy/usage and financial data in combination with horizon scanning activities.
- Deputise for the Head of Operations in meetings relating to ARC operational service.
- Undertake any other appropriate duties as directed by the Head of Operations and the ARC Director.
- Represent Research Services at meetings, external groups, conferences, and seminars to keep up to date with developments and gain and share across the team information/knowledge of working practices in the higher education context.

A1 Relevant degree/postgraduate qualification, or the ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through personal development and progression in a similar related role(s).

A3 Detailed and authoritative knowledge of laboratory logistics/operations and infrastructure.
