Finance Officer

**Main Purpose of Role**:
The Finance Officer is primarily responsible for providing management support to the Head of Finance for all accounting activities and management reporting. Based in the Finance Office and working as part of a small finance team, the post holder also shares in the responsibility for general finance-related duties and is expected to cover for the Head of Finance in her absence. The post-holder will have line management responsibilities towards the junior level staff members in the finance department.
The main duties of the Finance Officer include, but are not limited to:
**Duties and Key Responsibilities**
- Work with the Head of Finance to prepare annual management accounts through to trial balance
- Work with the Head of Finance to prepare quarterly management accounts
- Work with the Head of Finance to prepare budgets for the organisation
- Reconciliation of balance sheet control accounts on a monthly and quarterly basis and at year end
- Manage Month End procedures
- Manage the VAT for HNHA (partial exemption)
- Work with the Head of Finance to review and communicate process improvements
- Complete all monthly processes for payroll and manage all payroll related information.
- Oversee finance administrators.
**General**:
- Support and assist the finance team when necessary with bank reconciliations, invoicing, credit control, room fees, banking, general phone calls and queries
- Ensure that accounts and financial information are processed in an accurate and timely manner, and company procedures are followed correctly.
- Any other duties as deemed reasonable and necessary by the Head of Finance
**Personal/Professional Development**
- To agree personal objectives and training issues at Appraisal
- To attend regular team meetings
- To attend statutory training which is required by the home and legislation and to attend other training events to update and extend knowledge and skills which impact on the post
- Keep abreast of all financial developments and practice across the industry to ensure compliance and best practice for the organisation.
**Persson Specification**:
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- Holds AAT qualification Level 4 and has maintained this qualification.
- Recent accounts experience in a similar position
- Experience of using Sage 50 Accounts
- Experience of using Sage 50 Payroll
- Recent experience of all aspects of payroll up to and including submissions to HMRC and processing year ends.
- Line Management experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills - both written and verbal - with the ability to explain facts and issues clearly and concisely to colleagues, employees and others, including those without financial knowledge
- Fully conversant in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work individually and as part of a small team within a busy environment
- Proven ability to meet targets and deadlines
- Professional, friendly and flexible approach to work
- Self-motivated; well-organised, adaptable and resilient. Responds to challenging priorities with a sense of urgency and pace. Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to demonstrate awareness / understanding of equal opportunities and other people’s behaviour, physical, social and welfare needs
- Excellent communication skills in order to provide clear and meaningful interpretation of analysis.
- Stakeholder management to be able to understand finance and operational stakeholder’s needs and requirements in order to provide excellent customer service
- To understand the correct balance between challenge and support of these stakeholders in order to raise both the profile and external perception of the team
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
- Experience of using Sage 50 Accounts
- Experience of using Sage 50 Payroll
- Experience of working within the care sector is an advantage but not essential
- Previous experience gained in a similar role within the Charitable Sector
