**Job Description - Head of Communications**

**Post Title**: Head of Communications

**Responsible to**: Chief Executive

**Prime Function**: Lead responsibility for all communication activities

**Principal Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Assisting the Chief Executive**

Assist the Chief Executive with the management and development of the organisation as an active member of World Habitat. Develop our communications strategy delivering measurable and effective campaigns that support the delivery of the organisation’s strategic priorities within its organisational values.

Deputise for the Chief Executive as and when required.

Assist the Chief Executive in the preparation of reports for, and attend, board meetings when required.

**Leading Our Communications**

Devise deliver, and update World Habitat’s communications strategy, enabling World Habitat to achieve its strategic objectives by delivering measurable campaigns to a consistently high quality

Identify PR opportunities and lead on media campaigns across the range of World Habitat’s programmes and the World Habitat Awards.

Deliver and monitor the organisation’s global communications activities and manage the World Habitat’s digital platforms, and visual identity.

Build and nurture a strong network of relevant external contacts (eg media contacts) to support our global communications. Represent / speak on behalf of World Habitat to external partners and the media including at events and meetings.

Provide communications expertise, advice and support to colleagues delivering the World Habitat Awards and related knowledge exchange activities and our key programmes, currently Community-led housing and

Ending Street Homelessness in European Cities.

Manage the production of photography, video, translations and published outputs and ensure adherence to editorial standards to protect the organisation’s brand.

**Management and Leadership**

Provide leadership and line management in line with World Habitat’s values for members of staff that you manage, setting an effective agenda that ensures that the organisation’s values, strategy and priorities are

**Finance**

Manage and control the communications budget, allocating resources strategically to best achieve World

Habitat’s strategic priorities.

**Personal Development**

Maintain and develop knowledge and skills that enhance your role and help World Habitat deliver its strategic priorities.

Identify best practice and use creativity to improve internal systems to best deliver the work of the organisation; with an eye on future needs.

**Other**

Undertake travel within the UK and overseas, which may require staying overnight, as and when required by the organisation. This is likely to amount to around 15-20 days per year.

This job description sets out the duties of the post at the time it was drawn up.
