We are looking for an excellent Senior Planning Officer on a temporary basis (27 weeks/ 6 months), working for an excellent organisation, based in Greater London. This position is paying £17.21 p/h (PAYE).

Role Purpose:

- Support the effective renewal and regeneration of the organisation
- The processing of planning appeals
- The provision of specialist planning advice
- Supervision of projects as required
- Training and mentoring of junior staff

The postholder will operate within a team dealing either with planning policy, planning enforcement or development control. Movement between teams as part of an agreed personal development programme may be possible.
Job Context (Key outputs of team / role)

This post, within the planning division, reflects the need for a professional (qualified) person with skills appropriate to the discharge of this statutory function. The postholder will operate within one of the three service teams within’ the division, working to fulfill the Company’s obligations as a local planning authority. Participation on regeneration, communications, consultation and projects relating to the delivery of high-quality sustainable development may also form some part of the role. All postholders will be expected to contribute to the enhancement and improvement of the quality of the service and its outputs and to maintain their professional competence in town planning.

Generic Duties

- In accordance with the Immigration Act 2016, where the role is customer-facing and the post holder is required to speak to members of the public, the ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

- Knowledge of current Town and Country planning, practice, procedures and legislation, in one or more areas; within planning, enforcement, policy or development control.
- Ability to organize workload, to establish priorities for action, and to carry out the necessary work to a high quality within given deadlines.
- Ability to obtain, record and process information in a manner which is technically, factually and grammatically accurate.
- Ability to examine and assess information, and to present a balanced analysis of competing issues, including the making of recommendations to senior officers or the planning committee.
- Ability to prepare accurate and detailed reports and to present information, verbally and in writing, in a manner which clearly demonstrates a thorough, structured, logical, and orderly approach.
- Experience in planning policy, planning enforcement or development management.
- Planning degree or equivalent accredited to the RTPI
- A willingness to respond positively to change in procedures, practice, policies, and organisation within the Development Management Section, the Planning Group, and the Company in general.
- Ability to work effectively in a team, and a willingness to work in a manner that contributes positively to the performance of the team.
- Ability to understand and discuss complex planning and regeneration issues.
