**_“_ _The Rapid Investigation Team is a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team based in Field Services UKHSA. It specialises in rapid data collection and management as well as epidemiological analysis and interpretation duringpublic health incidents such as outbreaks of infectious disease._**
**_This post will lead or support with setting up analytical pipelines, designing questionnaires, conducting epidemiological analyses and evaluations, and producing or maintaining routine surveillance reports. This work requires a good understandingof surveillance data and proficiency in R, Git, and SQL, due to a strong team focus on reproducible pipelines and automation. The role will also involve drafting peer reviewed publications, writing SOPs and technical guidance, and developing standards forfuture incidents._**
**_This is an exciting and impactful role, with the team often involved in high-profile outbreaks such as COVID-19 variants, monkeypox, and hepatitis A, and with stakeholders ranging from Local Authorities to the NHS, academia, and the Cabinet Office.RIT also works closely with colleagues across the UKHSA, including regional Field Service Teams, Health Protection Teams, national disease specialist and surveillance teams. The post-holder will be expected to build and maintain strong relationships with thesegroups.”_**
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) offers hybrid working - this means that whilst the role will be based in one of our offices, there will be opportunities for an element of working from home. UKHSA have office locations across the UK.
This role can be based at one of our UKHSA offices/locations (Leeds, Manchester, Totnes, London, Horsham, Cardiff, Bristol, Nottingham, Harlow, Liverpool, Fareham, Gloucester, Newcastle and Birmingham) with opportunities for an element of working from home.
The balance between home and workplace working is to be agreed with the line manager, determined primarily by business needs and in line with departmental policy.

**Responsibilities section**:
**As the Senior Scientist your main responsibilities will include**:
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

- Where appropriate, lead and manage the technical and analytical (including data management) aspects of epidemiological outbreak investigations, including the supervision of the investigation of exceedances, e.g. write protocol of analytical studies, contributeto the production of outbreak control team reports and automated sitreps, and train interviewers.
- Identify surveillance needs within given lead areas, create surveillance system specifications, conduct statistical analyses and interpret surveillance data, making appropriate recommendations, develop automated routines and solutions and supervise / assureon the preparation, quality and delivery of routine and ad hoc surveillance reports.
- Use common statistical/database/mapping/web tools such as R, Git, ArcGIS, network analysis, SQL and SharePoint in routine reports, surveillance activities and the development of solutions and undertake complex analytical and programming tasks using commonand specialist software packages to support data extractions, analysis and validation
- Advise on quality and governance issues including information security for all aspects of Field Service work, evaluating existing systems and acute response to incidents and outbreak, and use to improve standards and consistency across the team.
- Support/lead and facilitate the delivery of projects using a framework to ensure they are well planned, efficiently implemented, predetermined benefits are realised and associated risks mitigated.
- Present at scientific conferences, programme area meetings and other for a and publish and present scientific papers on public health surveillance, outbreaks and infectious disease control in collaboration with health, public health, academic and otherpartners.
