We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Instructor Keeper to join our Animal Sciences and Conservation Department here at our York campus. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who is capable of working with others and is responsible, passionate and knowledgeable about the overall animal management sector and has an enthusiastic approach to animal husbandry and welfare.

The post will require you to work with a range of species within the park and deliver practical modules to Level 2 and 3 learners including assessments.

Reporting to the Animal Sciences and Conservation Manager and Deputy. Responsibilities include the day-to-day care and management of the animal section, general cleaning, feeding, maintenance and record keeping of the animal species. You will be part of the Zoo team and we are especially interested in someone with a focus on mammals and birds.

**Main Purpose of the role**

To assist the organisation of the Animal Sciences and Conservation Department and overseeing the care and welfare of the animals under the supervision of the Animal Managers. To assist with the day-to-day routine husbandry and maintenance duties in the Animal Sciences and Conservation Department. To assist with the planning and contribute to the day to day provision of practical animal resources to meet the needs of the curriculum. To assist in the growth and development of the commercial activities of the animal sciences and conservation department and to plan and deliver practical training and assessments.

**Key Tasks / responsibilities**:
All tasks to be carried out in a consistent manner with the corporation’s culture.
- Responsible for the day-to-day care and welfare of animals and organisation of the animal sciences and conservation department under the direction of the Animal Managers
- To carry out routine maintenance of the animal collection and assist with the maintenance of grounds, enclosures, paddocks, and buildings.
- Liaise with the Animal team, animal managers and members of the teaching staff to ensure that resources are available, and provision is made to meet the requirements of the curriculum.
- Contribute to the delivery and the assessment of practical components of the curriculum.

**Role Dimensions**
- Support the development of commercial activities to generate income and raise the profile of the animal departments
- Responsible for the production of display material and maintenance of accurate records within delegated area
- Supervise students whilst on the animal department and monitor and report duties.
- Attend meetings, shows, events and open days etc., as required and contribute to various onsite activities and events.
- To undertake any other duties relevant to the post as directed by the animal managers.
