Assistant Keeper

**The Magic of Life Butterfly House - Assistant keeper Position 2024**

The Magic of Life Butterfly House is seeking an Assistant keeperto join our close-knitteam from April/Mayto October2024, with the chance to extend. As one of our Animal keepers, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks that vary throughout the year, including butterfly rearing, growing their food plants, marine tank maintenance and invertebrate care.

The list below is in rough order of priority of the tasks for this position.

**1) Plant & Livestock care **- Feeding and rearing caterpillars, fish and other livestock and all sorts of gardening jobs.

**2) Visitor Welcome** - Fronting the butterfly house, till and welcoming people with the other staff.

**3) Gift Shop **- Keeping an eye on the gift shop to maintain order when it’s busy.

**4) Maintaining order and hygiene - **The front entrance/reception room, displays and generally on site.

**5) Odd jobs - **These jobs vary day to day but also seasonally but essentially it’s small jobs needed to run the butterfly house successfully.

The position requires 3/4 days a week, 7.5 hours a day (9.30am-5pm), with at least one weekend day. From November to April we have reduced hours to 4pm instead of 5pm. Please note that a private car is essential for this role. Salary is £12 per hour and paid monthly in arrears.

All paid leave must be taken outside of the school holidays.
