Bear Hunt Ranger Volunteer
Come and join us on a Bear Hunt that will be taking over the city this summer. Designed to celebrate the vibrancy, culture and creativity of Leeds, and to raise money for Leeds Children’s Hospital, the trail will be deeply rooted in the local community.
We are looking for **positive and enthusiastic Bear Hunt Rangers to engage with trail-goers and look after over 35 locally designed bear sculptures** placed around Leeds city centre.
The role includes helping trail-goers to find their way around the trail, checking on the sculptures to ensure they are clean and well-maintained and reporting any issues to us. It involves walking, so a good level of fitness is needed, as well as being an enthusiastic communicator who is confident talking to and engaging with people. Volunteer as little or as much as life allows, We are truly grateful for any time you can spare.
**The Bear-Necessities**:
- **Bear Hunt trail dates**: The trail runs from 1st July to 9th September.
- **Recruitment**: we'll begin interviews and checks from Monday 24th April and will be running training sessions throughout June in preparation for the big launch weekend
- **Time commitment**: a minimum of one shift (3 hours) a week where possible (although you can do more) - the trail is open every day but we'll be looking for weekend volunteers as a priority.
- **Shift times**: 10am-1pm and 1pm-4pm every day of the week (weekends are a priority).
- **Location**: the trail is based across Leeds with most bears based in the city centre which is where Rangers will be mostly based.
- **Supervision**: In this role you will be paired with another volunteer at all times. It is therefore important that you are able to volunteer independently without staff supervision and must be 18+.
**WHY WE WANT YOU**
We are recruiting for Bear Hunt Rangers to act as our all-important trail ambassadors
You will be paired with another volunteer and will be based at points on the trail, answering questions from trial participants and sharing information about the trail, the artists who have painted the bears, and how the money raised from the trail will support Leeds Children Hospital.
As a Ranger you'll need to be happy volunteering in the outdoors, able to walk around the city centre and have the confidence to strike up conversations with members of the public.
**WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING**
- Engage with trail goers and act as trail ambassadors
- Answer questions and generally promote the trail, the charity and the Children's Hospital
- Circulate trail maps and fundraising information
- Facilitate fundraising activity and collections
- Help with maintenance by reporting injured bears
- Be a Bear Hunt enthusiast
**THE SKILLS YOU NEED**
- Reasonable fitness level as you will be required to walk around areas of the city centre
- Happy to volunteer in the outdoors during a Leeds summer
- Confidence to strike up conversations with members of the public
- Be a responsible and positive member of the team
- Enthusiastic about the work of Leeds Hospitals Charity
- Act in line with the values of Leeds Hospitals Charity
**WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU**
- Be part of a huge community centred city-wide fun initiative
- Meet new people and join a fantastic, friendly team of staff and volunteers
- You will receive full training and an induction to the role
- We can be a reference for you once you've volunteered for 3 months
- We are happy to reimburse reasonable travel expenses in line with our policy
- Your own Leeds Hospitals Charity/Leeds Bear Hunt t-shirt and invitations to Volunteer Thank You events
- By volunteering you will make a significant contribution to improving the lives of patients and staff at Leeds Teaching Hospitals
**Job Type**: Volunteer
**Salary**: £0.01 per hour
**Benefits**:
- Free or subsidised travel

- English not required
Schedule:
- Day shift
Work Location: In person
Application deadline: 30/06/2023
Reference ID: Bear Ranger
Expected start date: 01/07/2023
