**Introduction to the Trust, Ward & Team**:
In collaboration with the senior management team, develop, lead and manage the SLT resource within the community learning disability team. To receive and respond to the needs of referred learning disabled adults to develop positive lives in their local community. This involves allocation of clinical work to SLT colleagues, to ensure appropriate allocation of SLT resources and the effective deployment and development of SLT skills. To ensure maintain clinical excellence in the Learning Disability SLT field, and lead of pathways of care. In the absence of the health manager the post holder may cover identified responsibilities

**Responsibilities**:

- To assess, diagnose and manage a wide variety of complex communication and swallowing disorders within the field of Adult Learning Disabilities.
- To take responsibility for devising, monitoring and evaluating specialist programmes of care for other professionals and/or carers to carry out.
- To devise, run and evaluate therapy groups for the benefit for clients with the support of other SLT staff.
- To plan relevant training to support the development needs of carers of people with disorders of communication and swallowing to enhance client care.
- To develop and implement evidence based specialist interventions.To provide advice to others regarding the how to support the communication needs of individual people with learning disability.
- To act as an advocate or facilitator for people, as agreed with supervisor. For example, formal reviews, client appointments.
- RCSLT accredited degree or equivalent Certificate to Practice as a speech and language therapist (SLT).
- Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
- Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) e.g. completion of specialist short courses or other post-graduate training.
- Post graduate basic certificate in dysphagia issued by a course recognised by RCSLT.
- Demonstrable and relevant experience of working as a speech and language therapist with adults with learning disabilities.
- Experience of working within a relevant specialist area e.g. dysphagia, challenging behaviour.
- Experience of working collaboratively and successfully within a multi-disciplinary team and with relatives and carers.
- Experience of training carers and others.
- Experience of working with colleagues in speech and language therapy and related disciplines to fulfil objectives.
- Experience of managing a caseload with mínimal support.
