Westminster, United Kingdom City of Westminster Council Full time

**About Us**:
**THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF GIRO’S PERSUASIVE POWERS**

The Environment and City Management team in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories. We love it when our work touches lives.

Take Stepping to the Beat, our 3k walk, jog or run for people with learning or physical disabilities or Autism, their families and carers. It’s a life-affirming, music-based event Coreen and Claudia are massively proud of - and they were keen for people to spread the word. So, imagine how thrilled they were when one of our residents, Giro, did just that. Advocating for people with disabilities at a planning meeting for transport in London, he was proudly wearing his event medal. And he decided to use it to encourage others. As he passed it around the room, Giro inspired lots more people with disabilities to get involved. Infectious enthusiasm goes a long way here.

**The Role**:
As Programme Navigator in our Ukrainian Response Team, you’ll be making a huge impact on the lives of people who need us most - providing direct support for both Ukrainian refugees and the people who are hosting them.

Our Ukrainian Response Team is made up of ten passionate and talented individuals who work collaboratively with key departments for adults, children, and housing. This role provides direct support to our Bi-Borough Ukrainian Response - meaning that you’ll liaise with Ukrainian refugees and hosts on a daily basis, supporting their integration into Westminster and Chelsea and Kensington’s community.

You’ll be responsible for providing specialist advice, guidance, and programme support activities to those who need it. This includes things like housing, education, physical and mental health check-ins, employment support, welfare payments, and external drop-in support sessions.

It also includes delivering family support plans for hosts, keeping in touch with those families, identifying additional support needs for hosts, and conducting occasional home visits to see how things are going.

You’ll help contribute to our internal and external communications around the programme and work collaboratively with partners and colleagues around the Council to deliver a proactive and coordinated approach to supporting our Ukrainian guests during this turbulent period of their lives.

This is not a standard 9-5 role - sometimes you’ll have to work outside of these hours. It’s going to be fast-paced, ever-changing, and sometimes, it’ll feel extremely challenging. But it’s also going to be incredibly rewarding. You’ll play a vital and integral role in the wellbeing and future of people from Ukraine.

Please refer to the **Job Description** **for more information.

**About You**:
Due to the nature of this role, we’re looking for someone who’s flexible, highly motivated, and resilient. You’ll be a creative problem solver and comfortable thinking on your feet when there’s a change in circumstance that needs immediate attention.

You’ll also need to be a great communicator - someone who is comfortable speaking to people of all ages and backgrounds about potentially difficult topics. Someone who can motivate and encourage others with a positive mindset. And someone who can describe complex information in clear and simple language that’s easy to digest.

It would be great if you already have experience of working within local government, supporting project teams, or providing support to the wider public. If you’ve previously worked in a customer service role where you’ve had to identify and overcome complex problems effectively, that could be of great help. Additionally, you must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and be able to analyse data.

We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable establishing strong, long-lasting relationships with managers, colleagues, partners, and clients - building trust and confidence with your stakeholders over time.

Most of all, you’ll need to be someone who brings empathy and heart to the role. Sensitivity is key, but you will need to keep a clear head and calm disposition when handling situations that may at times be emotive and challenging.
