Our client based in Poole has an immediate requirement for a Senior Design Engineer to join their design team.
In this role you will have responsibility for the development of new products, design to cost, design for manufacturing, prototyping, and support of new products introductions. You will need strong technical knowledge, as well as problem solving, communicationand project life-cycle knowledge
The general duties will include:

- Technical lead for key customer accounts or roadmap projects
- Take ownership of new projects from technical specifications through prototype and testing, to production.
- Optimise existing products focusing on Design for Manufacture, reduced material cost & improved performance.
- Ensure that all products are designed in accordance with specified requirements, company practice and recognised engineering standards.
- Generate engineering CAD models, drawings, and BoMs.
- To collaborate fully with Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Purchasing, Applications, Tests, Quality and the Project Manager on new product launches or customer projects.
- Investigating and approving Concessions & 1st offs, raising DCRs (Design Change Requests) within projects or, as required by production or quality.
- To undertake and record FEA simulation and calculations on studies to validate the design.
- Help junior design engineers to develop their SolidWork and technical skills.
- Previous experience in a Senior Design Engineer role.
- Broad knowledge and expertise of Engineering.
- Experience of castings, mouldings, machined components, and assembly techniques.
- Knowledge of lathes and milling machine tolerances / capabilities.
- Knowledge of modern design, development techniques and best practice.
- Excellent communication, numerical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to produce work consistently to a high standard within tight deadlines.
- Ability to prioritise and manage a diverse and busy workload, including simultaneous projects in parallel.
- A creative approach for generating new ideas.

Desirable:

- Degree qualified in Mechanical or Electromechanical engineering.
- Knowledge of the basics of brushed and brushless DC motors, gear theory and drive trains
- PCB design knowledge
- Approval knowledge: UKCA, CE, UL, IP and EMC
- SolidWorks EPDM (Enterprise Product Data Management)
- Manufacturing ERP system (Priority, IFS, SAP or others).
- Experience using KissSoft Gear Design software.
- Experience in APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning): D&P-FMEA; PPAP
- Experience using MotorSolve Design software.

There is an immediate start available for this full-time, permanent, office-based position. We are able to offer a starting salary of between £40k - £50k per annum (dependent on experience) plus competitive benefits.
