**JOB DESCRIPTION**

TITLE**:MEDICAL RECEPTIONIST**

REPORTING TO: Practice Manager

HOURS OF WORK: 25 hours per week

Between the hours of 8.30 - 6pm Mon to Friday - (set shift pattern to be agreed with successful applicant)

SALARY: TBC

Plus Pension scheme provided

**Main Purpose of the Job**

The main duties of the post holder will be to provide a GP Receptionist service to the Surgery and fulfil all related clerical, scanning and administrative tasks.

**Key duties of the Job**

1. To deliver an excellent standard of administrative support to GPs working within the surgery/centre

2. To be able to demonstrate the required degree of accuracy and attention to detail to meet the needs of the post.

3. Ability to work in a busy, challenging environment.

4. To receive patients and visitors in a polite and friendly manner.

5. To effectively manage arrangements for all patient appointments, dealing efficiently with associated enquiries

6. Preparation of acute and repeat prescription request as per surgery protocol as and when required.

7. To maintain confidentiality at all times

8. To maintain accurate patient records in an efficient and effective manner in keeping with surgery requirements

9. To deliver and maintain a high level of customer care in all aspects of patient contact

10. To comply with all record keeping requirements within the surgery

11. To input and assist in the maintenance of the existing computer databases

12. Read coding of clinical documents as per agreed protocols

13. To liaise with outside agencies within the wider primary care health team

14. To effectively process incoming and outgoing mail as per surgery protocol

15. Scanning of documents on to the clinical system as per surgery protocol.

16. To provide other administrative support including typing of letters, reports, memos, filing, photocopying, preparing new patients clinical records etc

17. To be available to provide additional relief cover for colleagues and have a degree of flexibility.

18. To comply with existing procedures and protocols

19. To comply with Health and Safety at work legislation

20. To act as a key holder with responsibility for opening & locking premises as required

21. To undertake relevant training as required for the post.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Essential Criteria**

English Language with medical reception experience **OR**

NVQ/GNVQ Level 2 Business Administration plus a minimum of one year’s experience working in an administrative role. **OR**

A minimum of two year’s recent relevant experience in an administrative/ office setting

2. To be IT literate with a minimum of 6 month’s experience of working effectively with Windows Programmes or equivalent

3. To possess effective communication skills.

4. To demonstrate an understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for discretion and confidentiality.

5. To be polite and courteous towards patients, colleagues and all visitors to the practice and on the telephone

6. To demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.

7. To demonstrate an ability to prioritise workload

8. To demonstrate an approach to work which is flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service

9. To demonstrate an approach to work which is both collaborative and co
- operative

10. To carry out all duties in a reliable and consistent manner

**Desirable Criteria**

1. Recent work experience within the Health Service/Gp Practice
