**Metallurgist**

The Role:
Work closely with the sales team on new opportunities that require technical input and
with procurement to ensure that all technical requirements are captured in the
purchasing specifications.

To ensure all aspects of contract review are completed correctly, documented,
communicated to the commercial departments, and flowed down to the operational
environment to provide fully compliant parts to the customer requirements.
Support the Technical and Quality Manager with specific projects that require technical
input and departmental representation. This will include customer/supplier visits and
leading the technical elements of the discussions.

Primary

**Responsibilities**:
? Acting as the interface between high profile key customers, the company sales
team, and suppliers, on all material technical matters. This could be in the form
of a new opportunity before an enquiry received, reviewing the quotation
requirement once received or contract review when an order is received.
? Collaborating with the customer and/or the supplier to resolve technical issues as
they arise.
? Review manufacturing routes to ensure compliance with specification and
purchase order requirements.
? When required witness elements of the manufacturing process externally, for
example the forging process.
? Launch investigations, produce reports, and draw conclusions from work
undertaken to find route cause or the way forward to resolve a technical issue.
? Create documentation such as test requirements sheets for mechanical,
analytical, non-destructive, and metallurgical testing, and subcontract purchase
order instructions, for example to heat treatment companies.
? Represent the company at technical conferences and working groups, reporting
back the highlights and any actions required.
? Tasks assigned by the Technical and Quality Manager, which will occasionally
include deputising on technical matters.

Essential Skills/Experience:

- Degree or HND in Metallurgy or Materials Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years in industry experience.
- Experience of melting, hot working, and testing
- Experience of writing procedures and training employees across a business.
- Experience of Quality Management Reviews and FMEAs
- Worked within Continuous Improvement cultures
- Experience with reviewing manufacturing routes to ensure compliance
- Worked within metal stockholding or producer, ideally with nickel-based alloys
- Experience of writing technical reports
- Experience of working to OEM technical specifications and Quality requirements.
- Experience of error proofing
- Good problem-solving skills with a good understanding and experience of using
methods such as 8D, 5 Whys, Six Sigma
