**About the Role**: Crocus Medical Practice has an opportunity for a receptionist to join our team on a
***part-time basis for 25.5 hours per week:
- Monday 7.45- 18.30
- Wednesday 12.30 - 18.30
- Friday 7.45 - 18.30
You will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone. You will receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
- The main responsibilities include:
- Having a thorough knowledge of all the practice procedures and to work in accordance with these.
- Undertaking a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice.
- Opening up, preparing and locking-up of premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols - having knowledge of doors, windows and alarm systems.
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system and waiting room.
- Processing personal telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare or administrative professional ensuring that all details are recorded correctly.
- Ensuring that telephone messages are taken accurately.
- Promptly and politely answering telephone calls, answering enquires and giving test results as directed by the doctor.
- Providing clerical assistance to practice staff as required, including work/data processing, filing, photocopying and scanning.
- Filing and retrieving paperwork.
- Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines, following the Standard Operating Procedures.
- Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures.
- Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers.
- Checking consulting rooms and reception area as required.
- Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter
- Processing appointment requests for today/future appointments from patients by telephone and in person.
- Registering new patients and change of address (have knowledge of practice area and dispensing villages)
- Having a working knowledge or telephone system, during and after hours.
- Being flexible for covering of sickness and holidays.

- Ability to work in a polite, confidential and discreet manner, respecting patients at all times;
- Experience of working with the general public, being sensitive and empathic in distressing situations;
- Confidence to work as part of a team and ability to "think on your feet";
- Strong IT and administration skills;
- Previous medical or healthcare receptionist experience is desirable.
Some flexibility is required, as you will sometimes need to work additional or alternative hours to cover for colleagues.

We are a friendly, fun, forward thinking and high achieving practice that is situated in North Essex, 20 minutes from Cambridge, having close links with Addenbrookes Hospital. We currently have over 13,000 patients and use SystmOne. We work in Partnership with our PCN and ICB and moved to a brand-new purpose built surgery in July 2021.
We have a good relationship with our patients and maintain a caring, family and community orientated ethos in our work. We enjoy a very low staff turnover.
Saffron Walden is a picturesque, vibrant and historical market town with excellent schools and a strong sense of community and the town is growing, attracting young families.
