Reporting to the IT Manager, you will be the first point of contact for IT within the business. You will support our team with their IT needs, making sure their equipment runs effectively by helping to solve hardware and software issues. As you gain more experience, you will take on more tasks and will always be learning new skills.

This is a varied role, but you won’t be ‘thrown in at the deep end’. Internal and external training will be provided with huge scope for growth and development. As you grow and develop, you will be exposed to more systems and technology. This is a fantastic opportunity for you if you are passionate about IT and have a positive, problem-solving mindset.

This role will primarily be office-based, but there will be opportunities to work from home.
**This means that you must already be eligible to work in the UK and must be able to work in the Southampton office regularly.**

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Provide day-to-day first-line IT support.
- Support users of Office 365, Teams, Sharepoint and other business software.
- Set up new Virtual Machines (VMs).
- Procure and set up new computers (e.g., for new employees).
- Maintain IT hardware such as laptops, PCs, servers, network devices and printers.
- Test IT systems and services.
- Maintain the backup and monitoring services.
- Maintain accurate IT hardware and software inventory.
Perform pro-active daily checks to ensure the company’s critical IT systems are running smoothly.
- Maintain IT documentation and procedures so that they are easy to follow and are up to date.

**Essential attributes**:

- Passionate about IT and technology.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of the set up and maintenance of computers and related hardware.
- Knowledge of Microsoft office software.
- Basic network administration, inc. cabling/patching, an understanding of TCP/IP.
- Professional, reliable, trustworthy, responsible, quality focussed, supportive.
- Strong interpersonal skills, approachable, team player
- Ability to multitask and context switch.
- Ability to learn new technologies and tools quickly.
- Strong work ethic.
- Happy to work outside normal hours when required (e.g., for out of hours maintenance).

**Desirable attributes**:
Experience in any of the following is useful:
Implementing and commissioning new IT systems and services.
- Linux systems administration, including installation, package management, basic system configuration.
- Windows desktop, server administration and related services.
- IT security challenges and best practices.
- Network administration and monitoring.
- Experience with dedicated server-class hardware.
- Virtualisation and container technologies.
- LDAP, FreeIPA, or related directory technology (including Active Directory).
- Microsoft 365: e.g. Teams, SharePoint and Power Automate.
- Exposure to configuration management systems, e.g. Puppet, Ansible.
- Web Content Management Systems, ideally Wagtail.
- Databases: e.g. MySQL, SQLite.
- Project management/tracking tools: Trac, Jira, etc.
- Revision control systems: e.g. Git, Subversion.
- Exposure to scripting languages: e.g. Python, Perl.
- Agile development: e.g. Scrum, Kanban, DevOps.

**Qualifications**

Relevant Level 3 (or higher) qualifications - e.g. A Levels, BTEC.
