The Estates and Facilities Cost & Commercial Surveyor will join the team at an exciting time, using their specialist knowledge and skills to play a key role in the delivery of the University’s Estate Strategy. The University estate is comprised of over 130 buildings with 190,000sqm of space, featuring a multitude of learning, research, social and commercial environments.

In the Cost & Commercial Surveyor role, you will work directly with the Senior Commercial Manager and wider project delivery team members in delivering the University’s Capital Plan, specifically those within the Finance and Procurement support functions.

You will assist with the delivery of maintenance, small works and larger capital projects, working primarily at project level but also supporting programme level forecasting and reporting. Projects typically range from £50k to £50m and consider a wide variety of works to existing buildings, new buildings as well as wider campus projects.

Day-to-day responsibilities will include contributing to the procurement of works and professional services in accordance with University and Public Sector regulations, undertaking due diligence of tender and contract documents produced by external consultants, plus supporting the internal Project Managers with financial management of projects. In addition, the production of cost estimates for future works and supporting senior colleagues with cashflow forecasting and strategic programming. There will also be a requirement to provide contract advice to the Project Managers where projects are being delivered internally. This role will focus on lower value projects (typically sub-£1m) but there will be opportunities to support the Senior Commercial Manager on the larger and more complex projects.

You will have a relevant Quantity Surveying qualification and should be able to demonstrate relevant experience, ideally in the Public Sector, plus have an interest in the built environment in general. The role needs an ability to organise and prioritise workloads with adaptability and flexibility to meet time pressures and project deadlines, using your own initiative at times. You should have strong interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships and be able to communicate clearly and effectively using a number of formats, specifically spreadsheets.

This is a full-time position working 37 hours per week on a permanent basis.
