POST TITLE: Cycle Mechanic - Bike Town

HOURS OF WORK: Part time
- flexible/as agreed. Weekend work essential

SALARY: £11.60

RESPONSIBLE TO: Bike Town Senior Team Leader

**Position Overview**:Healthy n Happy Community Development Trust (HnH) Vision is to make
Cambuslang and Rutherglen the healthiest and happiest places to live in
Scotland. HnH is an ambitious, energetic and successful community led organisation.

This role will work in our Bike Town social enterprise and provide exceptional customer service by welcoming and assisting all customers and participants into our retail premises. You will be knowledgeable and supportive in answering queries concerning our stock and servicing by assisting customers in purchasing bikes, parts, accessories and all product lines. You will undertake bike servicing and repair and also attend events undertaking Dr Bike services. You will support external community engagement at Healthy n Happy and partner events.

**Retail/Customer Service & Community Engagement Duties**
- Provide exceptional customer service by welcoming and assisting all customers.
- Knowledgeable in answering questions on products/services and assisting customers in purchasing bikes, parts, accessories and other product lines and handling customer bike servicing inquiries, by telephone, online and face to face.
- Identify non-routine customer enquiries and escalate as appropriate.
- Providing friendly and efficient workshop and retail counter service
- Represent the organization’s mission (both as a social enterprise and for funded programmes) to everyone who visit the unit.

**Workshop Duties - Cycle Maintenance and Repairs**
- Servicing, repairing and maintaining cycles including ebikes
- Refurbishing and recycling cycles, including striping and sorting cycles to component parts
- Building bikes from both new and used or refurbished parts
- Cleaning cycles and parts of cycles
- Preparing cycles for sale including PDI (Pre delivery Inspection) for new bikes and ebikes
- Driving our vans (if over 25, with full/clean license) to pick up bike donations and trips to recycling for items that cannot be upcycled or recycled or other trips as required.

**Team Working, Supporting Volunteers & Health & Safety**
- Supporting the Bike Town initiative as directed by the line manager to achieve funding outcomes with volunteers and residents
- Working with and supporting colleagues and volunteers
- Maintaining a friendly and helpful manner and attitude
- Supporting at external Healthy n Happy and partner events as required
- Being responsible for health and safety in role of Cycle Mechanic and reporting anything of concern to line management
- Adhering to systems of work and good working practices o Completing forms and other paperwork as required o Maintaining a clean, safe and tidy workshop and workplace o Maintaining a high standard of work and work practice
- Being responsible for Risk Assessments and health and safety in role of Cycle Trainer and reporting anything of concern to line management
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as delegated by line management

**General**
- Build and maintain strong working partnerships, ensuring positive promotion of Biketown and Healthy n Happy. Represent the organisation in a professional manner.
- Adhere to Healthy n Happy standards, policies and procedures and team plans at all times.
- Contribute as an active member of the team and be accountable to the Board of Directors and to local people.
- Undertake any other duties and responsibilities mutually agreed which are within the scope of the post

**Skills and Experience**

**Essential**
- Regular and competent cyclist.
- Understanding and awareness of road and traffic environments.
- Be decisive, maintain good discipline, inspire confidence and give encouragement.
- Be enthusiastic about cycling with an understanding of cycling as a sport, means of transport, leisure pursuit and healthy form of exercise.
- Experienced in bicycle maintenance and repairs (with qualified /part qualified accredited course -e.g Velotech, Cytech, City & Guilds or equivalent experience)
- Customer Service Experience and strong communication skills on the telephone or face to face.
- Ability to work autonomously and effectively within a team

**Desirable**
- Pro-activity, initiative and attention to detail.
- Local cycling knowledge
- Experienced in Cycle Training (with qualified /part qualified accredited course -e.g

Bikeability, Essential Cycle Skills, British Cycling Coach, Play on Pedals or equivalent)
- Hold a cycle ride leader qualification (British Cycling, Cycling Scotland or equivalent)
- Hold a First Aid qualification (Preferably 2 day outdoor first aid)
- Able to record customer and volunteer information ideally with computer skills
- Use social media and other online tools/Apps
- Reliable and tidy approach to work
