Fellow in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive

The centre performs approximately 1200 cardiac procedures per year including coronary artery bypass operations (including off-pump) and valve replacements, in addition we also offer UK-leading advanced mínimal access surgery. There is the opportunity to gain experience in anaesthesia for mínimal access surgery including Right Anterior Thoracotomy and Port Access approaches for valve surgery. A fifth theatre has recently been commissioned for robotic and combined procedures. We are expanding our thoracic work from 500 cases per year, including wedge resections, lobectomies, pneumonectomies by a combination of video assisted surgery and open surgery. We have an active and close relationship with the cardiology teams regularly providing anaesthetic services for electrophysiology, device insertions and removals, primary PCI and trans-catheter aortic valve replacements.

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC have Primary FRCA or FFICM prerequisites (or equivalents) and have at least two years of experience of anaesthesia/ICM.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust provides tertiary cardiothoracic and cardiology facilities for the 1.6 million people of Lancashire and South Cumbria. The Lancashire Cardiac Centre was commissioned in July 2006 and is one of our four regional centres for Cardiothoracic surgery. It houses catheter labs, four operating theatres and 20 critical care beds, together with associated ward beds and dedicated educational and research facilities.

It is less than an hour’s drive to the beautiful Lake District and Bowland national parks, Manchester airport is within an hour’s drive with international connections.
