Portage Home Visitor

We are looking to recruit a part time Portage Home Visitor to join our innovative team and help play a central role in exciting developments within the Specialist teaching team in York.

Portage is a home visiting service for preschool children with Special Needs. We support parents and carers in their homes to help their children learn by breaking learning into small steps, through individually tailored fun play activities. We work with children from birth providing practical, relevant and holistic support for families through what can be both a challenging and rewarding journey from the early days until the child starts nursery.

You will be part of a skilled, friendly and supportive team who meet regularly for supervision and work closely with a wide range of other professionals both in the home and in the community following the National Portage Association model.

You will have your own case load of children and support their families through keyworking. We also offer a range of groups for families which you will be a part of.
- Experience of working with preschool children and their families
- Training or qualifications or relevant experience of working directly with young children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families
- A sound knowledge of early child development, the Early Years Foundation Stage and current legislation and documents relating to early years education and to special educational needs and disability.
- Successfully completed a recognised Portage Basic Workshop prior to appointment or will undertake training shortly after appointment
- DBS
- A valid UK driving licence and use of a car.
