**Reporting to: Design Manager**

**Purpose of the Role**

As a Signalling Assistant Designer you will be able to produce, ready for independent check, elements of non-conceptual design which will form part of the overall output from the Licensed Designer from who you will take your lead for systems and equipment as recorded on your Authority to Work.

For systems and equipment that the Assistant Designer has Authority to Work, the Assistant Designer will be capable of following the design process for an element of the overall design without necessarily knowing the context for their design.

**Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability**
- Produce or assist with the production of signalling design details, to include scheme/signalling plans, bonding/track/IRJ plans, location diagrams, cable core plans, power schematics and interlocking wiring ensuring adherence to all Network Rail Group and Company Standards.
- The post holder will be mentored if required by more experienced or senior engineers within the group.
- Assist with Signalling infrastructure condition assessment surveys and site surveys.
- Assist with the checking-in, quality check and transfer/return of drawings, issue of design documentation and the updating and maintenance of technical records as required.
- Assist with the testing and commissioning of signalling equipment if required.
- As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
- Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.

**Person Specification**
- Appropriate technical qualifications preferred (i.e. ONC Electrical/Electronic Eng)
- Holding or working towards Assistant Designer IRSE Licence
- IT literate (CAD skills can be developed)
- Engineering focused, analytical
- Effective communication
