**Purpose of role**:
1)To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children attending Emmy Jayne’s Nursery School;
2)To give support to other personnel within our Nursery;
3)To implement the daily routine in the playrooms.
**Key Areas**

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- To adopt our Nursery philosophy whole heartedly;
- Formulate and operate a programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in your area in conjunction with the Manager/Deputy Manager;
- Prepare the children’s records in your key group and ensure observations are kept updated and to a high standard.
- Work with parents of all children to achieve full integration in the Nursery;
- Foresee the needs of all children and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation;
- Organise staff breaks, support all staff and engage in a good staff team;
- Liaise with and support parents/carers and other family members;
- Liaise with the Local Authority and other professionals associated with the Nursery;
- To attend staff meetings and training courses as required;
- To be flexible within the working practices of Nursery. Be prepared to help where needed, including to undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery;
- Participate in the training programmes of a wide variety of students, by giving guidance and support;
- Work alongside the Deputy Manager and Manager to ensure the Nursery philosophy is always maintained;
- To ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times and be responsible for the Health and Safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children;
- Record accidents and incidents in the appropriate format.
- Administer medication and complete Medication Forms for children, checking that the medication is appropriate for the child.
- To ensure confidentiality of information received;
- To develop and maintain good relationships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring needs
- To ensure displays are neat and relevant to the children’s interests.
- Ensure each child is collected by someone authorised to do so;
- Specific Child Care Tasks: Washing and changing children as required; ensuring that mealtimes are a pleasant event; The preparation and completion of activities to suit the child’s stage of development and areas of interest; Providing comfort and warmth to an ill/upset child.
- To ensure Emmy Jayne’s is a high quality environment, meeting the needs of individual children from differing cultures and religious backgrounds and stages of development;
- To be aware of the high profile of the Nursery and to uphold its standards at all times;
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Managers.
**Person Specification**
Essential:
- EYT qualification
- 2 Years post qualifying experience in a Day Care Setting
- Relevant and sufficient experience to satisfy OFSTED criteria
- Experience of dealing sensitively with issues
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrates the ability to work within Emmy Jayne’s Policies and Procedures
- Knowledge of the Children's Act 1989 and the EYFS Framework
- Ability to monitor the performance of the team within a specified room against criteria in the EYFS and nursery Policies/Procedures
- Demonstrates that records are suitably maintained in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and Ofsted requirements
- The ability to record and maintain accurate records for children’s developmental stages;
- Demonstrates leadership skills
- Possesses knowledge of Child Protection procedures
- An ability to act promptly and appropriately when a complaint has been made
- Possesses good time management and organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise own workload
- Ability to supervise and delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately;
- Knowledge of Health and Safety Issues and Risk Assessments
- An understanding of Equal Opportunities
- To be able to feed back information to parents/carers coherently, either verbally or in writing.
- Suitable both mentally and physically, to care for children.
- Has an enthusiastic and flexible approach
- Ability to communicate with children and adults
Desirable:
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Food Hygiene Certificate
- Safeguarding Training.
