Position Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Cask Planner to join the Macallan Cooperage. The purpose of this role is to plan all cask movements in and out of the Macallan Cooperage and other Edrington operational sites. The role is also responsible for coordinating cask movements to North British and managing cask activity with a 3rd party subcontractor. The role will involve working closely with the wider cask supply team (including Jerez), group logistics, distillery sites, warehousing operations, strategic planning, and external transport providers. The role holder will ensure efficient movement of casks and will play a key role in defining and maintaining appropriate site stock levels.
Job Description
- Responsibility for interpreting and combining plans from different stakeholders, executing practical and efficient logistics
- Schedule workload for cooperage and cask shed team
- Plan and arrange cask despatches and receipts to/from third party and group sites,incoming cask movements from Spain and USA
- Monitor and report monthly on progress against the annual plan for Sherry cask and Bourbon casks receipts
- Liaise with Macallan Planners to ensure correct mix of casks is delivered to Filling Lines in a timely manner
- Work with Customer Supply Schedules to develop dispatch plans,liaise with other sites to establish source of fillable casks
- Liaise with freight partner(s) to organise delivery of sherry casks and bourbon casks, avoiding unnecessary demurrage costs
- Report monthly on any additional freight costs incurred,understand capacity constraints to ensure continued delivery of casks
- Support development of cask tracking system and planning tool
- Day to day planning for the sale and arranging delivery of excess cask stocks to 3rd parties,arranging delivery of staves to internal Edrington departments for sustainable reuse
- Planning and allocating refill casks to their next filling either to group or 3rd party sites,consolidation planning to ensure targeted bonding to desirable warehouse locations
- Collaborate with the Customs and Excise team to plan and arrange export certification for any wood being sent overseas from The Macallan Cooperage
- Lead planning meetings with the Cooperage and Warehousing team leaders and senior operators
Skills and Experience
To succeed in this role you have previous experience gained within a planning or logistics environment. An awareness of H&S (with any qualifications being an advantage). Experience with Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel and PowerPoint and using stock management systems and planning tools i.e. Cask Database, SAP. You have excellent planning, organisation and communication skills. Good problem solving skills and ability to take an innovative approach when appropriate. High level of interpersonal skills, with experience of working in a complex, fast moving environment. Knowledge cask handling would be advantageous. Attention to detail - accurate record keeping and data entry is essential. Ability to be self-motivated and demonstrate ownership over tasks.
