Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for a post-doctoral researcher interested in Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in research to make a difference in the Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre in Mental Health at the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience as our Research Coordinator. Our BRC believes in putting the service user voice at the heart of research, so we are looking for a person committed to coordinate service user involvement in our BRC and in our research. We conduct research from service users’ perspectives so that the results can be easily translated into beneficial clinical care. In addition to specific mental health research, the post-holder will help to facilitate and develop patient and public involvement across the Maudsley BRC.

We conduct research that is important to service users. Our previous research has included medication side effects and developing Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). In future research, we will continue to develop PROMs as well as conducting studies on digital health. We take a mixed methods approach and want to increase capacity with new studies with PhD students who have a background of using services. The co-ordinator will be able to generate research projects in their own area of interest.

The post-holder will manage the operations of our PPIE including our research workers as well as support our Diversity champions and research theme PPI leads. The co-ordinator will also write publications and presenting our research at national and international conferences. This is a perfect role for an experienced researcher to move towards developing an independent programme of research in their chosen specialism.

This post will be offered on a full-time, fixed term contract until 30 November 2027.

Key responsibilities

Co-ordinate and implement the day-to-day activities of PPIE in the Maudsley BRC

Ensure we achieve our objectives and milestones to our deadlines,

Communicate complex information, verbally, in writing and electronically,

Build internal contacts and participate in internal networks for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration,

Liaise with senior Maudsley BRC management and our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion lead.
- The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post._
