As part of the UK Media & Public Affairs team, the successful applicant will fulfil an important role in the Press Office, reporting directly to the Senior Public Relations (PR) Manager.

The PR Officer will focus on building WSP’s profile in the UK through proactively identifying, generating and delivering media opportunities, utilising print, online and social media to increase the reach of WSP’s activities and enhance its reputation.

Key areas of focus include: promoting our people and projects and enhancing key topic areas such as net zero; decarbonisation; sustainability / ESG; biodiversity; skills; inclusion; and energy transition.

The role requires experience liaising and pitching to national and trade media, proactively securing comment, interview and feature opportunities, drafting media content including press releases and opinion pieces, and tracking and reporting on media coverage.

Under the leadership of the Senior PR Manager, this role will support the delivery of the UK Media & Public Affairs strategy and wider WSP UK business strategy, as directed by the UK Head of Media & Public Affairs.

**Your new role, what's involved?**
- Supporting the Senior PR Manager in the running of the WSP UK Press Office
- Identifying opportunities to raise the firm’s profile in the media around key themes and business focuses
- Building and maintaining relationships with key journalists to generate PR opportunities for WSP in broadcast, national, trade and online media
- Forming relationships with internal stakeholders to understand projects they are working on or upcoming press opportunities and creating proactive pitches for relevant media
- Drafting media materials including press releases, proactive / reactive commentary and opinion pieces, and reviewing content from internal stakeholders before publication
- Monitoring national and trade media daily to identify stories which might be of interest to key stakeholders within WSP and opportunities to react / respond
- Tracking WSP media coverage through our print and online clippings providers and ensuring coverage is recorded, and supporting the Senior PR Manager with developing monthly, quarterly and ad hoc Press Office reports
- As directed, supporting relationships with PR consultancies contracted by WSP, facilitating their access to spokespeople and content and guiding them on which topics and projects to pursue for media coverage
- Working alongside the Social Media Executive to support WSP’s UK social media channels, publishing WSP news and monitoring for engagement or requests which require a response; working closely with the Digital Marketing team to ensure a collaborative approach
- Supporting wider Media and Public Affairs team activities, including from time to time event attendance and management.

**We'd love to hear from you if you have**: Essential**:

- Demonstrable experience in a PR / Media Relations role
- Experience pitching to and working with journalists from broadcast, print and online media outlets
- A degree or equivalent education (Marketing, Media/PR, Journalism or similar would be an advantage)
- Energy, enthusiasm, creative thinking and an appetite to learn
- Ability to distil technical information and present in a way which will appeal to media
- Excellent writing skills and an understanding of how tone will differ for press releases, commentary, statements and opinion pieces
- Confident and helpful manner when liaising with journalists and internal colleagues
- Ability to work within a fast-paced Press Office function and work collaboratively within the broader Communications & Marketing team environment

**DESIRABLE**:

- Experience using LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
- Experience using media monitoring and tracking software (such as Cision) would be beneficial.
