The post holder will be responsible for coding some of the more complex areas within the Trust.

The post holder will act as a ‘mentor’ and first port of call for any coding queries.

The post holder will assist with internal validations and may be required to action any error reports.

The post holder will liaise closely with the Trainers/Auditors to deal with coding issues raised by the coding team.

To support the Trainee Clinical Coding officers in attaining their Clinical Coding Qualification as required.

The department offers a flexible approach to working patterns to promote a healthy work/life balance.

The Clinical Coding Department is based over three sites; Aintree, Broadgreen and the Royal site. On occasions you may be required to travel across sites.

To abstract, analyse, translate and data entry complex medical patient care records into diagnostic and procedural coding in an accurate and timely manner adhering to the Trusts deadlines.

To support coders to ensure all coding to be completed by agreed timescales following discharge, to support payment by results with the assistance of the manager when necessary, and in line with department procedure.

To support in the identification of problems and produce new reports to improve and monitor information Quality/Coding issues, identifying underlying causes and working towards solutions.

To actively promote the profile of Clinical Coding within the Trust by participating in workshops and other training sessions and to produce the associated support documentation.

The post holder should be able to demonstrate a high level of communication skills, excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Reliable, accurate and up-to-date coding of information is needed to support the running of the Trust, and ‘Payment by Results, and to meet the needs of Commissioners and the Department of Health.

This is achieved by the accurate translation of diagnostic and procedure information contained within patient notes into predefined codes and entered on to the patient administration system.

A significant part of this role will be to ensure the quality and coverage of coding is constantly monitored and improved, to provide complete, timely, quality data.
