We have an exciting opportunity within Cancer Services at The Royal Cornwall Hospital for a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner/Nurse Associate to join our Oncology Clinical nurse specialist team. This role will initially be supporting the Sarcoma and Non site specific services initially but will support other areas as required. This role will be working across our Oncology outpatients, day case and in-patients areas, supporting patients and their families through their cancer diagnosis and pathway of treatments. You will be working closely with the Clinical Nurse Specialists and wider team in delivering a high standard of professional care. This is a 2 year fixed term post.

This will be a rewarding role with opportunities to develop, learn and progress. It would suit an enthusiastic practitioner, who aspires to deliver excellent cancer care. Our services promote better recognition and prompt, appropriate management of either a suspected or confirmed cancer diagnosis. Team members work with complex patients who require support and guidance throughout diagnosis and treatment ensuring they are signposted to appropriate professionals within the service and outside. You would be working along-side a wider multi-professional team to ensure a high quality and coordinated service is provided to all patients.

We are looking for someone who is well organised with extensive communication skills and the ability to work autonomously, and someone with a keen interest in oncology. It is imperative that they are passionate and enthusiastic about patient care, able to assist in delivering new transformational ways of working and strive to improve patient experience, quality, and outcomes for patients.

This is a great opportunity to join cancer services and the evolving cancer specialist nurse team to provide an outstanding level of care and support to our patients.

Deliver a high standard of clinical and / or therapeutic care within varied care settings in accordance with instructions and training received.

Work within clearly defined accountability frameworks, recognising at all times the boundaries to the remit of the Assistant Practitioner/Nurse Associate

Take responsibility for, prioritise, and manage own workload under appropriate direction.

Communicate with patients and their carers using tact, diplomacy, empathy and reassurance during potentially difficult or stressful situations or where there may be barriers to understanding, i.e., confusion, physical impairment, cognitive failure or language barrier.

Act as an effective resource of information for patients and their carers.

Liaise effectively and work collaboratively with team colleagues, healthcare staff across the Trust and appropriate contacts in other organisations i.e., Adult Social Services, GPs, Nursing and Residential Homes and Voluntary Agencies, to ensure effective and coordinated patient care.

Maintain accurate, up to date records of care, contribute to the single care process and maintain confidentiality and security of patient information according to DPA18. Outpatient documentation predominantly electronic and inpatient documentation a mixture of both electronic and handwritten.

Maintain and develop clinical competence through continual professional development, compulsory and service specific training, peer supervision, reflective practice and clinical supervision
