Summary: The Buyer role will be responsible for the procurement and management of inventory in a cost-effective and timely manner. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who possesses excellent communication and relationship-building skills, coupled with the ability to work under time pressure to meet production demands. The role involves influencing buying decisions to ensure preferred terms regarding quality, cost, and delivery, directly supporting the company's procurement strategy and departmental targets.

Key Responsibilities:

Communication:

* Build and maintain supplier relationships, providing clear communication on day-to-day procurement activities.

* Liaise with the broader team when making buying decisions to ensure the best decision aligns with the company strategy.

* Communicate with customers as needed when making supply chain decisions.

* Escalate unresolved issues within the team to the Procurement Manager.

Quality:

* Ensure internal systems are updated with correct and relevant information at all times.

* Manage demand reports daily to ensure that demand is captured and placed according to MOQ/MOV/Lead Time information, and that receipts are managed against changing demand.

* Update and establish safety stock levels based on up-to-date and forecasted demand to achieve continuity of supply.

* Work with the NCR team on supplier rejects, facilitating problem-solving and corrective action, and addressing pending quality concerns.

Cost:

* Work with current and potential suppliers to negotiate cost reductions.

* Reject or defer cost increases from suppliers through negotiation.

* Identify methods to increase buying power with selected suppliers to secure preferential terms, leading to cost reduction and supplier consolidation.

* Ensure payment terms are in line with or exceed standard terms with all suppliers.

* Negotiate discounted terms and rebate agreements to secure advantageous terms.

* Manage spending to limit the amount of stock held, including obsolescence.

* Collaborate with the commercial team to manage pricing variation, ensuring it is captured and communicated to the customer.

Delivery:

* Manage open demand to ensure that on-time delivery (DOT) targets are met.

* Oversee suppliers based on requested and promised date information in accordance with procurement objectives.

* Categorize suppliers using A, B, C analysis and manage them accordingly:

* A: High value/Long Lead/Prone to change – Frequent management via weekly meetings or calls.

* B: Moderate value/Moderate Lead – Bi-weekly meetings to review order book and lead times.

* C: Low value/short lead – Supplier order books.

* Escalate unresolved variances through the appropriate channels.

* Work with suppliers on lead time reduction through negotiation of SLAs and blanket orders.

* Increase stock turns by introducing stock management tools such as VMI, Min/Max, Kanban, and SLA.

* Update suppliers with appropriate forecasts and anticipated demand levels, preparing the supply chain in anticipation of purchase order placement
