Position: Furnace Operative

Location: Dudley

Salary: £14.50ph + bonus

Role: Permanent position, afternoon shift – 12pm-8pm

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Furnace Operative to join specialist manufacturing Client based in the Dudley, you will reporting to the Melting Supervisor and Works Manager.

The Furnace Operative will be:

Ensuring manufactured products meet requirements to drawing using tools and guidelines
Responsible to inspect cast ductile iron and steel castings for turbo/manifold and general engineering sectors to maintain the company’s high-quality standards
Fully comprehends and adheres to prescribed procedures for the safe operation of induction melting plant across two manufacturing plants.
Trained individual who is fully aware of all controls and operating instructions. Melting iron, steel or ferrous constituents to meet the demand of the moulding lines.
Following critical procedures and inspection methods to help maintain safety, quality, and productivity.
Loading / charging, accurately weighing charge materials for the melting plant. Inspecting charge components to ensure safe conditions and predictable quality.
Experience to inspect tools and equipment and performs remedial refractory maintenance to the furnace linings, treatment and pouring vessels.
Ability and experience to pour or cast moulds and treatment of ductile iron in a foundry environment.
Supports all aspects of metallurgical testing to ensure safety and quality are always maintained.
Practical experience using temperature, chemical and metallurgical process control tools and equipment.

Ability to review data and make the correct decisions using the collected data
Desired requirements for the Furnace Operative:

Maintain application of all refractories used in melting and pouring at VFL.
Maintain levels of inventory and raw materials associated with melting and pouring;
Report writing and generating, collating information for customer certification.
Participate in plant trials and improvements maintain departmental communication boards and control charts.
·Recommend projects to improve business performance.

·When required, attend daily scrap meeting to review melting, metallurgical and pour-related defects and implement corrective actions.

·Ensure all checks are completed within melting and metallurgical departments.

·Ensure permit to work for all non-routine activities for all contractors working within melting, pouring and testing areas.

·Work with H&S advisor to improve health and safety/ environmental compliance.

·Ensure all metallurgical and process control equipment is maintained in expected working condition and calibrated.

·Ensure all associated departmental materials and are clearly marked and stored safely in designated storage areas.

·Raise concerns relating to any suspect or non-conforming material

Advantageous skills for the Furnace Operative:

Fork-lift licence

OHC Crane,

Lifting and slinging experience
