Personal Advisor - Early Help & Children’s Social Care

Trafford

£18.43phr

3 month contract

Your Main Priorities

Carrying out the duties of a Personal Advisor under the terms of the Children Leaving Care Act 2000.

Supporting care leavers living independently in the community.

Working in partnership with other agencies to ensure that young people leaving care receive the highest quality of service possible.

Key Duties

Provide a purposeful, professional social work service within a multi-agency team to children in need and their families, including the assessment of their needs, in accordance with statutory requirements and within service procedures/guidelines.

Offer advice to young people in care transitioning to independent living placements and work jointly with their Social Worker in preparing independence plans.

Offer advice and support to young people who have left care.

Maintain regular contact with care leavers, offering direct support to help them acquire practical living skills, and assist with issues of accommodation, income, health, education, and training.

Advocate on behalf of young people with other agencies, assisting them in developing negotiation skills with agencies and others within their community.

Assist young people in maintaining family relationships and developing positive relationships with peers and relevant others to enhance their understanding of relationships.

Ensure plans for young people are regularly reviewed and updated, taking a lead role in implementing their Pathway Plan.

Keep up-to-date records and recordings in line with the Authority’s policies and procedures.

Seek the views of young people on the service offered and represent their views to the Authority.

Work with other relevant teams/agencies and participate in relevant inter-agency forums.

Support colleagues and actively contribute to the development of the team.

Share skills, knowledge, and experience with other team members to promote self and team development.

Participate fully in and contribute to regular supervision and your Personal Development and Review Plan.

Assist in cover arrangements for colleagues who are absent.

Work to the requirements of The Children Act 1989 and The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and other relevant legislation.

Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as directed by the Line Manager, or as a mutually agreed development opportunity.

Qualifications and Professional Development

* NVQ level 3 child-care/social care or equivalent relevant qualification.

* Experience of working with young people.

* Experience of inter-agency work.

* Knowledge of The Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and The Children Act 1989.

* Knowledge of the Keep on Caring Strategy.

* Understanding of issues relating to Children in Care and Care Leavers.

* Understanding of Safeguarding Issues.

* Understanding of Equality and Diversity Issues.

Skills and Abilities

* Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain case files using an electronic social care record system.

* Ability to support and give confidence to young people.

* Flexibility to work as part of a team and contribute to team development.

* Ability to maintain confidentiality.

* Ability to monitor and evaluate work.

* Demonstrable commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.

* Demonstrable commitment to user involvement.

* Enthusiastic and capable of working on own initiative.

* Ability to travel to meet the requirements of the post.

* Full driving license and a car for use at work.

* DBS required.

* Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, including unsocial hours/weekend work as needed.

* Qualification in Social Work or Youth Work.

* Experience of group work.

* Experience of working with children in care or other vulnerable young people.

* Knowledge of Housing and Benefit Legislation.

* Counselling skills.

* Mentoring skills
