Job Summary

The ESG Manager reports to the Director of Policy & Frameworks and is responsible for supporting the development the bank’s ESG strategies, policies, and initiatives including planning and supporting implementation. This role plays a crucial role in ensuring that the bank operates sustainably, responsibly and in alignment with the principles of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and good corporate governance.

This role pulls together the various strands of the bank’s ESG work, liaising with stakeholders across all departments. The role will work with senior leaders to ensure compliance with the relevant regulatory and industry standards, making recommendations on future policy and action as well as support in regular reporting and assessments of ESG performance relative to the bank’s goals.



Key Work Outputs and Accountabilities

* Strategy and framework:
- Assist in the development and implement the bank’s ESG strategy in alignment with its mission and values;
- Provide coordination of ESG frameworks/ initiatives across the bank’s departments
- Track industry developments, best practice and emerging ESG trends and make recommendations for improvements.

* Reporting and disclosures:
- Prepare the bank’s ESG disclosures and reporting, ensuring accuracy, transparency and alignment with regulatory requirements (e.g. “Dear CEO’ letter; FCA Guidance) and recognised frameworks (e.g. Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB); Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD)) in line with the required deadlines
- Work with the Director of Policy & Frameworks and other relevant stakeholders to set and embed the climate risk appetite
o Produce relevant internal reporting and metrics to support the Bank’s decision making

* Policy and compliance:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of relevant, bank-wide ESG policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and international standards;
- Monitor and assess the bank’s adherence to policies, reporting on progress and recommending improvements.

* Governance:
- Identify relevant Board level training to meet regulatory requirements and support delivery;
- Work with the Director of Policy & Frameworks and others to establish structures to monitor and report on governance practices (e.g. diversity, equity and inclusion; risk management)

* Business partnering and stakeholder engagement:
- Identify and map key stakeholders relevant to the bank’s ESG priorities;
- Collaborate with internal support services (e.g. Legal, HR, Finance, Risk, Compliance) to ensure consistent interpretation and implementation of ESG requirements;



Required Qualifications and Experience

* Qualified to degree level or equivalent in any discipline OR relevant business experience (Qualifications in sustainability/ ESG are desirable)

* Experience of working in a regulated environment as well as within a risk management framework, and an appreciation of compliance

* Experience in sustainability reporting and working with data, including strong working knowledge of industry standards, ESG frameworks, and reporting requirements (e.g. TCFD, SASB, GRESB, UNGC) as well as horizon scanning

* Experience of successfully embedding and implementing an ESG strategy within an organisation, or if not, at least a proven track record in delivering an equivalent change programme within a small to medium company, combined with detailed knowledge across environmental, social and governance factors as they relate to financial services in the UK.

* Excellent stakeholder management skills with a proven ability to influence at all levels with confidence to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of senior stakeholders
