Hours: 08:00-16:00, shifts over a 7-day period (rota to be discussed/arranged with the department)

Contract: Until end of September

Salary: £14.36 per hour

Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Cook to join our thriving catering department at Maghull Health Park & Rowan View. The Chef will assist in preparing meals for patients, staff restaurants, and hospitality events. The ideal candidate will be patient-focused and demonstrate practical experience and knowledge of allergens and nutritional content. Experience within an industrial kitchen is advantageous. The candidate must ensure food safety standards are met at all times, following HACCP procedures.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan and organise work according to schedules and rotas.

Prepare and cook food according to a planned menu, using standard recipes at prescribed times, including the provision of special diets.

Exercise portion control following recipe guidelines to achieve correct nutritional values.

Prepare food for patients when required, working within the catering team to assist in any referral of special diets from the Dietetic department.

Ordering and Supplies Management:
Assist in ordering kitchen supplies in liaison with the Stores Manager and Production Manager.
Assist in the preparation, weighing, and portioning of vegetables.

Maintain familiarity with relevant hygiene and safety legislation relating to kitchen areas and attend any refresher training arranged by the Production Manager.

Ensure that working areas and equipment are kept in a clean, hygienic state, observing good hygiene practices in cooking processes as stated in the health service catering hygiene schedule.

Instruct kitchen porters to oversee areas of concern regarding cleaning and maintaining hygiene standards.
Adhere to all assured safe catering practices.

Team Collaboration and Training:

Assist in the welfare and training of assistants and students, including the induction of new staff.

Maintain good working relationships with wards and other departmental staff, ensuring effective communication via telephone, at service counters, and with other kitchen staff and hospitality.

Experience: Practical experience and knowledge of allergens and nutritional content. Experience within an industrial kitchen is advantageous.

Skills: Ability to follow food hygiene regulations and site HACCP plans, ensuring food safety and service delivery standards are met.
