Role: Mechanical Engineer

Site Location: Devonport (Expected on site around 2-5 days a month)

Rate: £70 via Umbrella (Inside IR35)

Duration: 12 month contract

Develop and author engineering concepts and deliverables to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost.

Working as part of the team responsible for the delivery of the mechanical engineering package, throughout the design phases of the project lifecycle.

Roles and Responsibilities

Able to work in a self-motivated fashion to use appropriate knowledge and experience in the creation of engineering documentation / deliverables and / or the development of engineering concepts.
Able to produce design reports and documentation to the standard and scope set out by the Mechanical Engineer - Senior in the timeframe defined by the programme.
Work effectively, following the project plan for project implementation. Self-motivated and responsive to requirements.
Working to Quality Management Arrangements, operate and deliver through compliance with Babcock's Business Management System and Technical Manual.
Work with awareness of Hazards associated with the work undertaken, and by fellow staff, and raising issues to the Principal Engineer - Mechanical as needed.Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements.
Experience in producing a wide range of engineering reports.
Experience in producing hand calculation to verify design requirements are met.
Awareness of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities. OR Awareness of the design and support of Hydrocarbon/Chemical process/plant systems.
Awareness of substantiation of process equipment for justification of Safety Functions (Nuclear preferred).
Awareness of the Functional Safety implications of process / plant design, and design of safety systems preferred.
Able to produce Process Sequence / P&ID drawings.
Able to produce fabrication drawings to recognised standards, i.e. BS8888.
Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council or working towards Chartership.

Nuclear Introductory Course or equivalent nuclear and/or marine system knowledge preferred. Alternatively, experience in other safety critical plant/process design would be considered.
Design of mechanical and nuclear process / plant systems e.g. fresh water, demineralised water, radioactive effluent processing etc.
Awareness of the Functional Safety implications of process / plant design, and design of safety systems preferred.
Awareness of substantiation of process equipment for justification of Safety Functions (Nuclear preferred).
Experience in producing a wide range of engineering reports.
The post holder must be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills required in the support of complex design development throughout the design lifecycle.
Experience working across multi-disciplinary project teams to the successful completion of projects within a tight schedule.
Experience in producing hand calculation to verify design requirements are met.
Able to produce sketches in AutoCAD to communicate concepts and proposals.
Experience in the selection of pumps and piping systems.
Able to produce Process Sequence / P&ID drawings.
Able to produce fabrication drawings to recognised standards, i.e. BS8888
