Working as a Prison Recovery Worker, you will be providing guidance, counselling, and support to individuals seeking to overcome addiction and improve their overall well-being. This role requires a compassionate and non-judgmental approach, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with other prison staff and external agencies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Conducting individual assessments to identify inmates' substance abuse issues, mental health concerns, and recovery goals.

* Developing personalised recovery plans in collaboration with inmates, addressing their unique needs and circumstances.

* Facilitating group therapy sessions and workshops focusing on addiction recovery, coping skills, anger management, and other relevant topics.

* Providing one-on-one counselling and crisis intervention as needed, offering emotional support and guidance throughout the recovery process.

* Assisting inmates in accessing relevant support services within the prison and upon release, including healthcare, housing, employment, and community-based treatment programs.

* Maintaining accurate and confidential records of all interactions with inmates, progress notes, and treatment plans in accordance with established policies and procedures.

* Collaborating with prison staff, including healthcare professionals, case managers, and security personnel, to ensure a coordinated approach to inmate care and support.

* Staying informed about developments in the field of addiction treatment and recovery, participating in relevant training and professional development opportunities as required.

* Fostering a supportive and non-discriminatory environment for inmates from diverse backgrounds, respecting their autonomy and confidentiality at all times.

* Contributing to the overall safety and security of the prison by adhering to relevant protocols and regulations, including those related to contraband prevention and emergency response.

Requirements:

* Previous experience working in addiction treatment or mental health counselling.

* Knowledge of evidence-based practices in substance abuse treatment and recovery support.

* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

* Demonstrated empathy, patience, and resilience when working with individuals in crisis or facing significant challenges.

* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently with minimal supervision.

* Commitment to upholding professional ethics and confidentiality standards in all interactions with inmates and colleagues.

* Familiarity with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures governing the provision of healthcare and support services within a prison setting.
