Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Technical with a strong background in bridge design. This is a hands-on, technical role that involves leading and checking design work, ensuring the highest standards of engineering practice.

The ideal candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with approximately 10 years of post-chartered experience, specialising in bridge design. Your expertise will likely come from a rail or highways background, but you will also have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects including coastal defence, lighthouse, marina, and flood defence projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee bridge design projects, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with relevant standards and codes.
Check and approve design calculations, drawings, and specifications.
Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects on time and within budget.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Collaborate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met.
Utilise Lusas software for structural analysis and design, with a solid understanding of Eurocodes.
Requirements:

Chartered Engineer status (CEng).
Around 10 years of post-chartered experience in bridge design, ideally within the rail or highways sectors.
Proven experience in a technical, hands-on role with a strong focus on design and engineering quality.
Familiarity with Lusas software and Eurocodes is highly desirable.
Experience as a Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE) or Contractor’s Engineering Manager (CEM) would be advantageous.
Strong leadership qualities with the ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and stakeholders.
