Job Role: Lead Quality Inspector

Salary: £45k

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Quality Inspector to join our client's team. Reporting directly to the Head of QHSE, you will be responsible for overseeing mechanical engineering inspections of precision machined components and fabricated parts, ensuring they meet stringent customer quality and specification requirements. In this senior role, you will also take on managerial responsibilities, guiding junior inspectors and coordinating with various departments to prioritize workloads and project deadlines.

Primary Responsibilities

* Leadership & Coordination: Oversee and mentor a team of quality inspectors, ensuring efficient workload management in coordination with engineering departments to meet delivery schedules and project deadlines.

* Inspection & Documentation: Interpret engineering drawings, identify specified standards, verify that final components meet specifications, and produce detailed supporting documentation.

* Quality Assurance: Identify non-conforming components, initiate corrective actions prior to customer delivery, and conduct thorough root-cause analyses for non-conformances, such as operator errors, machine issues, or incorrect materials.

* Calibration Management: Oversee the calibration of all measuring tools, ensuring compliance with calibration tolerances and performing checks at designated intervals.

* Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and detailed records to demonstrate measurement accuracy and compliance.

* Reporting: Complete Inspection Reports and produce Certificates of Conformance for finished components.

* Compliance & Advisory: Advise and guide managers and colleagues on quality issues, ensuring adherence to ISO14001 and ISO9001 standards by following Standard Operating Procedures.

* Collaboration: Work closely with the business and customers on product and process investigations to identify problems and develop effective solutions.

* Environment Maintenance: Ensure a clean, tidy, and efficient inspection environment, adhering to good housekeeping principles.

* Policy Adherence: Ensure compliance with Health and Safety Management System requirements, Environmental and Quality Management System requirements, and company policies and procedures.

* Additional Duties: Perform any duties as requested by the Head of QHSE, ensuring unmarked parts are properly marked according to company requirements, and maintaining company stock as per manufacturer’s instructions, especially for perishable items.

* Team Support: Assist other personnel with key tasks as requested.

Key Skills

* ISO Standards Expertise: In-depth understanding of ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards.

* CMM Proficiency: Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).

* Technical Interpretation: Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and conventions, with a strong understanding of weld and fabrication inspection.

* Material Specification Knowledge: Familiarity with material specifications and skilled in interpreting material test certificates to ensure compliance.

* Attention to Detail: Methodical approach with a strong attention to detail.

* Engineering Principles: Solid understanding of engineering principles.

* Team Leadership: Ability to work as part of a team, lead others, and work independently to meet deadlines under pressure.

Qualifications

* Experience: Significant experience in mechanical engineering inspection.

* Education: Qualification in mechanical engineering (desirable).

* Precision Measurement: Competence in using a range of precision measuring equipment, including digital height gauges, hardness testers, shadow graphs, etc.

* Metrology Experience: Experience with LK or similar metrology arms (desirable).

* IT Skills: Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Excel.
