An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Highway Engineer to come and join a busy client in the Manchester area.

The Principal Engineer will provide support to the delivery of the A34 Major Route Network (MRN) scheme and the A560 Quality Bus Transit scheme as well as supporting the development of new schemes within the Council's ATF-, Capability- and CRSTS-funded programme.

The main duties of the experienced Principal Highway Engineer are:

Development of programmes to take schemes though the feasibility process taking account of constraints on the approval and delivery process.
Liaison with a range of stakeholders including outside bodies and partner organisations in collaborative development of schemes.
Managing project teams to complete scheme consultations in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders.
Managing the democratic approval process for feasibility schemes including representing the Service at briefings and Committee meetings.
Preparation, submission and presentation of reports to Council Committee meetings and the Executive identifying options and making recommendations in accordance with the Council's transportation aims and objectives.
Liaison with the Development Management Service to ensure Planning related Highway schemes meet with feasibility requirements, avoid conflicts with other schemes and where possible complement other schemes under development.
Supporting effective budget management in all stages of the delivery process and support the implementation, monitoring and reporting of robust performance measures.
Developing and recommending strategies and specific physical measures to enable the reduction in the number and severity of road accidents.
Commissioning and responding to Road Safety Audits including preparation of briefs and Designers responses.
A willingness to work to the Council's stated values and behaviours, and to support the development of junior staff working on the project teams.
The Principal Engineer will need to hold a degree/ HNC/ HND qualification in Civil Engineering or other relevant field with evidence of continuing professional development.
