Chorley, United Kingdom Tradewind Recruitment Full time

Tradewind Recruitment are working closely with a secondary pupil referral unit (PRU) in the South Ribble area who require tutors to support the learning of SEMH students on a 1:1 basis.

The school aims to improve attendance and engagement with the education system, and some students who are referred for tutoring are youth offenders or are deemed vulnerable within their communities. Some pupils also have additional educational needs such as ADHD or ASC.

Tuition is often on a temporary basis in order to improve students's attendance before they are re-integrated into the school setting, however the school have a constant flow of students coming through who require 1:1 tutoring, and have a regular need for multiple tutors.

The tuition can happen in a variety of settings and mediums; either in school, at a neutral setting such as a library, in children's homes, or online, and carers or additional support staff are sometimes present to support engagement.

The school do provide some online learning resources, however there is often autonomy for tutors to deliver their own content deemed suitable for the needs of the child, and an emphasis is primarily placed on a holistic approach to learning.

QTS is desirable but not essential - candidates with previous experience working on a 1:1 basis with SEMH students in a learning mentor capacity often thrive in this role.

Responsibilities:

Provide tailored 1:1 tutoring sessions
Deliver engaging and interactive lessons across the whole National Curriculum
Utilise online educational resources and tools to enhance learning outcomes.
Foster a supportive and nurturing learning environment to aid in the pupil's academic progress and emotional well-being.
Collaborate with the pupil's support network, including parents and school staff, to ensure continuity in learning and development.

Requirements:

Qualified teacher or experienced tutor with a background in supporting students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties as a learning mentor
Ability to implement a holistic approach to learning and to provide pastoral support to students
Strong knowledge and expertise in Maths and English.
Ability to effectively utilise online educational platforms and resources.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Empathetic and patient approach to working with vulnerable students.
Relevant safeguarding and child protection training and certifications.

Benefits:

Competitive hourly rate of £25-£35 per hour, dependant upon experience and qualifications.
Flexible part-time schedule (2 hours per session), with opportunities to support multiple students during the course of each week.
Opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a student's life.
Supportive work environment with access to resources and professional development opportunities.

If you are passionate about supporting disaffected students with social, emotional and mental health difficulties, and possess the necessary skills and qualifications, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding opportunity.
