This Signalling Engineer ( Control, Command, Signalling and Communications ) will be responsible for providing expert technical knowledge to support the development of standards for UK Railways Systems.  This role involves leading engineering specialists in developing requirements, rationales, and guidance for railway systems, ensuring compatibility at various levels, and supporting safe integration through risk evaluation and assessment methods.

The engineer will work on operational technology, systems, and data, covering hardware, firmware, software, and data for both new and existing technologies such as railway signalling, ERTMS/ETCS, traffic management, and train control systems.

Additionally, the role requires authoring and revising publications and standards, including collaborating on European and international standards.

The Engineer, will not be an expert in “everything”, rather they will have the ability and gravitas to work across the industry with interested parties and various stakeholders to draw upon collective experience to develop standards,

That aside you will need an understanding of the whole railway system, experience of documentation revision with change control work processes.

A knowledge of current and emerging railway command, control, signalling and operations.

A strong written and verbal communicator, this is a change for a Digital Signalling Engineer, to work across industry, with some of the “greatest minds” developing standards, requirements, rationale and guidance.
